Job Description
The Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences at Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a full-time faculty position in Emergency Medicine and Critical Care to join our team of 2 DACVECCs and 4 emergency faculty. The position is a Clinical Track appointment with the academic rank of Assistant or Associate Professor level. In addition to ECC, the successful candidate will join a team of specialists in neurology, internal medicine, cardiology, surgical and radiation oncology, dermatology, ophthalmology, orthopedic surgery, diagnostic imaging, anesthesia, and primary care.
The duties of the successful applicant include participation in the teaching, service, and scholarly missions of the College. The successful applicant is expected to participate in classroom and laboratory teaching of veterinary students in emergency and critical care medicine as well as supervision and training of veterinary students and rotating interns in the emergency & critical care rotation. They will also be expected to supervise and train ECC residents once the residency commences. The criticalist is responsible for overseeing the triage and case management of emergency and ICU patients as well as consultation with clients and referring veterinarians seeking critical care for their animals. In addition to supervision and support of students, house officers, and the emergency faculty, some primary management of emergency and intensive care unit patients is expected. Research responsibilities will vary based on the interest and qualifications of the candidate and will include primary, collaborative, or translational research to meet expectations. The successful candidate will be encouraged to work with ongoing research programs and contribute to the scholarly achievements of the department. Scholarship of teaching and learning is also encouraged and supported by the college.

Required Qualifications
- DVM or equivalent foreign degree by the date of hire
- Completion of an American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care (ACVECC) or the European College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care (ECVECC) residency program by the date of hire
- Excellent communication skills and interpersonal interactions
- Must be eligible for a Virginia faculty veterinary license by the date of hire
- Occasional travel to attend professional conferences and meetings

- Diplomate status in the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care (ACVECC) or the European College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care (ECVECC) is preferred
