The LPN will work as an agent of the New Bedford Board of Health to oversee all aspects of Childhood Immunization Clinics including but not limited to ordering vaccines through the MIIS Vaccine Management Module, maintaining proper storage and transportation of vaccines, and administering vaccines and documenting in the Massachusetts Immunization Information System. Knowledge of the Massachusetts School Immunization Requirements preferred.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
These responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
- Provide general nursing care to students with disabilities by working in a collaborative role with other special education and health care staff to ensure a high quality of personalized care and instruction.
- Promote positive safety practices both within and outside of school buildings.
- Carry out communicable disease prevention and infection control based on current guidelines for universal precautions, prevention of bloodborne pathogens exposure and hazardous medical waste disposal.
- Provide medically prescribed interventions including medication administration (Based on State and Local Regulations), nursing procedures, and assist with nursing care to students on a daily basis.
- Maintain comprehensive health records of all interventions provided to individually assigned students.
- To be directly responsible to the building nurse for all activities related to medical concerns.
- Assist with any health-related tasks as deemed necessary by the Supervisor of Nursing and/or the building school nurse, with individual students or in the building's health office.
- To be directly responsible to the classroom teacher for all activities related to instruction.
- Assist the classroom teacher in carrying out the goals and objectives of student's I.E.P.'s.
- To confer with parents of special education students as needed with attendance at individual student's I.E.P. meetings if requested to attend.
- To assist individual special education students with travel to and from school if needed.

Job Requirements
- QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have a current Massachusetts license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse
Maintain certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and First Aid from a recognized provider, i.e. American Heart Association. - Citizenship, residency or work visa required
REPORTS TO:
The Executive Director of Special Education and Student Services, as well as onsite Principal and School Nurse.
