Job Summary
- Works under the supervision of The Director of Physical Therapy.
- Performs physical therapy procedures to restore function, prevent disability, and maximize the potential and quality of life following disease, injury, or surgery.
Principle Responsibilities and Duties
- Evaluates and assesses patients.
- Plans appropriate treatment based upon the referral and evaluation and establishes reasonable goals.
- Educates the patient and/or caregivers about the findings of the evaluation, established goals, and methods of treatment within the patient’s potential.
- Performs treatments according to the established plan utilizing appropriate procedures, equipment, and techniques within the scope of the physical therapy.
- Instructs patients and/or family members in home programs, injury prevention, etc.
- Documents in the medical records according to established criteria.
- Participates in the rotations of work location, as well as weekend and weekday hours.
- Re-evaluates patients, assesses their progress, and makes recommendations as their disposition.
- Follows insurance companies' authorization procedures and ensures documentation is submitted in a timely fashion to assist in authorization approvals.
- Communicates with other health care professionals, including patient referral sources, verbally and in writing.
- Assists with departmental maintenance and supplies.
- Assists with patient scheduling and payment collection.
- Actively participates in in-services, medical conferences, staff meetings, continuing education courses, rehab team, marketing programs, clinics, conferences, and other meetings as needed or required.
- Leads or directs the activities of PTA’s, assistants, attendants, volunteers, aides, and interns, ensuring that the department policies and procedures are enforced and that quality patient care is provided.
- Bills for visits in a timely fashion.
- Takes student interns as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Physical Therapy (B.S) including supervised affiliations required by the school.
- Licensure/Certification: MA Licensure, CPR certification required, can obtain post-onboarding.
- Malpractice Insurance: Therapists must maintain their own malpractice insurance.
- Experience: 2 years of orthopedic physical therapy experience.
- Equipment: All evaluation tools, orthotic materials, assistive devices, and therapeutic equipment used in the Physical Therapy Department.
- Skills: Basic clinical skills providing physical therapy to sports and orthopedic patients.
- Interpersonal Skills: Good interpersonal skills in dealing with patients, families, health professionals, and co-workers.
- Working Conditions: The job requires certain physical abilities in order to lift and position patients and perform treatments as well as carry weights and equipment as needed.
