Job Summary
Educational requirements: Must have graduated from an accredited PTA program, 2 year orthopedic clinical experience and maintain current MA PTA license.
- Work under direction and/or supervision of a Physical Therapist. Reports to the Director of Physical Therapy.
- Provide treatment and rehabilitation services to patients, including exercise, massage, electrical stimulation, hot/cold pack, traction, ultrasound, laser therapy, Graston Technique, manual therapy and other assigned duties.
- Monitor and document patient’s treatment and response.
- Consult with Physical Therapist no less than on a weekly basis regarding patient’s progress; complete billing in a timely manner (within 24 hours).
- Ensure all patients have an up to date insurance authorization as needed and documented in the chart on the benefit sheet.
- Clean treatment area after patient contact, including tables and equipment.
- Greet all patients in a friendly manner.
- Communicate with and support patients with a positive attitude and encourage them to do their best.
- Communicate in a clear, concise manner when instructing patients on HEP or when explaining treatment plan. Sends electronic HEP as necessary.
- Promote profession in community including, but not limited to marketing and community education.
- Strive to improve skills and knowledge base with continuing education based on the state requirement of 24 hours of continuing education per licensure period of 2 years.
- Collects data for notes or objective measures for Physical Therapist sign-off for reassessments. Review with a Physical Therapist and have them sign off. Then send it to the appropriate doctor.
- Assist with office tasks including but not limited to cleanliness of the clinic, wipes walls, vacuums, keep modality carts, weights and other exercise equipment organized, Wash, fold and distribute laundry to appropriate areas. Assist with office tasks, including answering phones, scheduling, insurance and billing inquiries, photocopying, filing, and other assigned tasks in a timely manner, and fills up all supplies, sprays, paper, toilet paper as needed in the clinic. Notifies the Director when low on items.
- Performs other duties as needed to assist the office.
Knowledge, Skills, and abilities required
- Education: Must have graduated from an accredited PTA program, 2 year orthopedic clinical experience and maintain current MA PTA license.
- Licensure/Certification: MA Licensure, CPR certification required, can obtain post-onboarding.
- Malpractice Insurance: Therapists must maintain their own malpractice insurance.
- Experience: 2 years of orthopedic physical therapy experience preferred.
- Equipment: All evaluation tools, orthotic materials, assistive devices, and therapeutic equipment used in the Physical Therapy Department.
- Skills: Basic clinical skills providing physical therapy to sports and orthopedic patients.
- Interpersonal Skills: Good Interpersonal skills in dealing with patients, families, health professionals, and co-workers.
- Working Conditions: The job requires certain physical abilities in order to lift and position patients and perform treatments as well as carry weights and equipment as needed.
