Job Description
Clinical position to monitor spinal back fusion patients post-operatively via tele-monitoring. Involves telephonic assessment of a patient’s reported symptoms, disease process, triage of critical situations, education, addressing co-morbidities, medications and lifestyle modifications. Role requires assistance in development of program implementation plan and identification of clinical assessment elements specific to spinal fusion surgery. Duties also include timely communication of appropriate medical information to the patient’s provider or case manager as needed. Position reports directly to the PASS Clinical Services Manager.
Qualifications
EDUCATION REQUIRED:
• BSN preferred
• Registered Nurse licensed in State of residence and potential other states as required by customer base.
YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:
Five or more years of experience in spinal surgery and other back condition management in either an acute care setting or other clinical setting. Pain management experience desired. Two or more years’ experience in a variety of nursing fields, especially chronic health conditions. Cardiology, critical care, and emergency room experience beneficial. High level of competency in pathophysiology, pharmacology, disease specific assessment(s) and patient/family education.
DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
High level of autonomy and ambition in performing his/her daily duties with minimal supervision. The Patient Advocacy Nurse Specialist will have excellent time management and prioritizing skills. Preferred experience in Back Conditions/Surgeries, Pain Management, Heart Failure, Diabetes Mellitus, and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. Excellent triage skills assessing critical situations. Although Remote Monitoring Program is not meant to be an emergency service, such situations may arise. Excellent critical thinking skills and problem solving skills. Excellent telephone etiquette and interpersonal skills. Excellent written and oral communication and documentation skills. Strong competency in computer skills, such as word processing, spreadsheets and e-mail (Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook). Basic typing skills (minimum 35 words per minute). Appropriate and professional grammar and correct spelling is expected and essential.
