Job Description
- Perform day to day tasks to maintain a clean environment in a health care organization.
- Work independently or in a team environment ensuring the safe and appropriate use of equipment, methods, and techniques to handle laundry, such as sorting, washing, chemical application, or water temperature.
- Complete assigned tasks based on the location's standard processes and policies.
- Follow infection prevention guidelines for handling contaminated laundry according to organizational and healthcare industrial laundry standards.
- Participate in laundry collection and sorting, and handle, store, and distribute clean laundry properly based on the location's standard processes and policies.
- Collect dirty linens (including but not limited to gowns, sheets, towels, blankets, and personal clothing) from wards, rooms, and medical offices; distribute clean and disinfected linens.
- Complete tasks such as washing, drying, folding linens, sorting, and folding clothing, and completing the proper labeling process for the designated healthcare organization.
- Store and secure laundry supplies and equipment of a healthcare organization.
All proper protective equipment (PPE) is to be used or worn as outlined in the location's standard processes and policies.
Physical activities include considerable use of arms and legs and moving of the whole body; such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, twisting, squatting, and handling materials. Ability to lift and/or move up to 30-50lbs and push/pull up to 500lbs on flat surfaces or up and down ramps. This position will require the individual to be on their feet for the majority of their shift. May be exposed to certain levels of noise with the equipment in operation. Depending on the location of the position, work hours will vary depending on patient needs. May include overtime, call, backup call, nights, days, weekends, and holidays.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Ability to use a computer; prior cleaning experience in a healthcare setting is helpful.
- Depending on location, must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
