Job Summary and Qualifications
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Certified Doula provides supportive care for patients within the scope of practice as defined by their certification, in collaboration with the physician and other members of the health care team using recognized doula supportive techniques. The doulas care supplements the care given by medical providers. The doula does not provide nursing care.
SPECIFIC ELEMENTS & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Administrative:
- Coordinate schedule with doula team and provide copy to manager.
- Lead doula team meetings.
- Coordinate orientation of new doulas including doula-intern.
- Assign primary doula to patients.
- Coordinate with manager/director as needed for doula program.
Antepartum and Intrapartum:
- Provides the laboring woman help and advice on comfort measures such as breathing, relaxation, massage, movement and positioning.
- Stays with the woman throughout labor giving reassurance and encouragement.
- Facilitates communication and a cooperative relationship between the laboring woman, her partner and her clinical care providers.
Post Partum:
- Has knowledge of lactation and how to assist and support the mother with breastfeeding.
- Support the mother and family with integration of the newborn into the family.
What qualifications you will need:
- Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
- Certified Labor Support Doula must be obtained within 7 days of employment start date.
- High School Graduate / GED.
