- In addition to its public-school system, it has several private schools. Higher-level educational institutions include private Berry College and Shorter University, and the public Georgia Northwestern Technical College and Georgia Highlands College.
- Largest city near the center of the triangular area defined by the Interstate highways between Atlanta, GA, Birmingham, AL, and Chattanooga, TN.
The role you’ll contribute:
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Consistently demonstrates through behavior the AdventHealth Pillars. Adheres to the ANA Code of Ethics, the ANA Scope and Standard for Nursing Practice, the State of Georgia Practice Act, and the AONE Nurse Executive Competencies.
- Human Resource Management: Monitors performance of the staff and takes corrective action for improvement as appropriate. Uses independent judgment to:
- Select applicants for interview and hire, ensuring appropriate orientation.
- In collaboration with Human Resources Department, suspend or invoke other discipline for work infractions, performance deficiencies, and conduct violations by exercising supervisory authority.
- Evaluate supervised employees, recommend promotion and bonuses, and award other discretionary rewards to supervised employees.
- In collaboration with the Human Resources Department and Director of Surgical Services, terminate supervised employees, where appropriate.
- Assign employees to particular duties or activities and authorize and assign overtime where appropriate.
- Adjust/resolution of complaints, concerns, and problems of supervised employees regarding work assignments, hours of work, overtime scheduling, and other work-related matters.
- Ensure diversity of staff is positively fostered in the work environment.
- Use skill in effective conflict management to reach common goals and resolve conflicts.
- Create a work environment that addresses the physical and emotional needs of the staff conducive to retention.
- Financial Management: Understands health care economics, public policy, and finance as it pertains to the delivery of patient care.
- Understand the broad impact of reimbursement on the delivery of patient care services.
- In coordination with the Director of Surgical Services, develop, analyze, and interpret unit-department based budgeting.
- Foster patient, family, staff, and physician satisfaction.
- In coordination with the Director of Surgical Services, involved in capital budgeting.
- Utilize information systems to support business decisions.
- Performance Improvement: Demonstrates familiarity with the performance improvement model of the organization.
- Champion performance improvement activities on the unit.
- Actively involved in all aspects of patient safety on the unit.
- Ensure workplace safety for employees.
- Support continual process improvement.
- Ensure practice changes are implemented as a result of performance improvement activities.
- Set quality standards and initiatives for the department.
- Critical Thinking/Technology: Utilizes critical-thinking skills in the performance of duties.
- Plan, organize, and lead the unit through application of critical-thinking skills.
- Utilize data-driven decision making.
- Employ strong problem-solving skills.
- Think of the system as a whole when analyzing data and making decisions.
- Ensure resources and talent are available to support staff.
- Leadership and Clinical Practice Knowledge: Provides leadership for the effective operation of the Operating Room.
- Lead employees in a manner that develops them to their optimal level of performance.
- Mentor employees to reach their full potential.
- Ensure adherence to models of care established for clinical practice.
- Foster inclusion of support services in the delivery of care.
- Ensure that the patient experience is the focus of all services.
- Communication and Relationship Building: Utilizes relationships in influencing behaviors on the unit.
- Utilize active listening, feedback, inquiry, and validation in communicating.
- Support academic relationships through welcoming students.
- Promote interdisciplinary relationships for better patient outcomes.
- Professionalism: Demonstrates a professional persona in their work.
- Act as a role model for professional behavior.
- Maintain confidentiality of employees, patients, administration, and medical staff information.
- Be involved in at least one professional organization.
- Utilize available education materials for career development.
- Attend hospital-based committees as assigned by the Director of Surgical Services.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN) or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) required at time of hire or enrollment in BSN program within 1 year of hire.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN) or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) highly preferred.
- Professional certification from a national organization.
- Prior management experience.
- 5 years of OR experience.
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:
- Current registration with the Georgia State Board of Nursing as a registered professional nurse.
