HJF is seeking a Physical Therapy Assistant to provide skills to efficiently carry out the exercise testing and training procedures for a study aimed at improving shoulder and knee pain.
This position will be in support of the Extremity Trauma and Amputation Center of Excellence (EACE) at the Naval Medical Center San Diego. The EACE works to advance medical and scientific knowledge through relevant research that will optimize clinical care and quality of life for Service members and Veterans with traumatic extremity injuries and amputations. We are looking for a new team member to assist with studies aimed at improving pain and function in Service members with knee and shoulder pain.

Responsibilities
- Responsible for running the data collection/treatment sessions, based on guidance from PI. Collects and processes clinical research data on the patient's performance and progress, documenting the patient’s medical records and correspondence and communication pertinent to the research. Assists in the preparation and submission of study progress reports.
- Assists in screening patients to determine their ability to safely participate in clinical studies.
- Instructs and leads patients through rehabilitation protocols.
- Monitors and ensures patient safety during all collection procedures.
- Performs duties necessary to comply with and implement research study protocols; ensures compliance with regulatory requirements; Maintains the security and confidentiality of all clinical and research records.
- Participates in peer-review and training to maintain clinical status.
- May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Associates Degree is required preferably within health science.
- Minimum of 3-5 years experience required.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Must be organized, attentive to detail, and possess a positive, friendly and professional demeanor.
- Knowledge of clinical or general research techniques is required.
- Experience in or exposure to research in a clinical setting is preferred.
- Experience with amputee care is desirable.
- Familiarity and experience with research design, data collection and computerized systems, and experience with laboratory management and administrative activities highly preferred.
- Ability to learn new software quickly, trouble-shoot computer related issues, and provide a high attention to detail.
- Demonstrated competence in oral and written communication.
- Must be flexible with changing priorities and able to communicate in a diplomatic and professional manner.
- Computer skills including at least intermediate level experience with Microsoft Office Software including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- US Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a T3/Secret Clearance.
Licenses and Certifications
- Licensure as a Physical Therapist Assistant.
Physical Capabilities
- Lifting: Requires lifting materials over 25 lbs.
- Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.
- Ability to climb, pull, and lift heavy objects.
Work Environment
- This position will take place primarily in a hospital setting.
Compensation
- The likely salary range for this position is $20.99 - $31.25 per hour. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Final salary will be determined based on market analysis, experience, and education.
Some positions or sites may require that the incumbent be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Proof of vaccination may be required.
