Under the general direction of assigned leader and clinical supervision of a licensed physician, the Physician Assistant serves as a specialized clinical provider expert clinician and role. Responsibilities included but are not limited to the following:
- Perform basic medical duties such as history taking, patient evaluation, all other routine medical procedures and minor surgical procedures, diagnosis, and recommended treatment.
- May be assigned to one or more of the following specialties: acute care, urgent care, neonatal care, pediatrics, cardiology, family health, orthopedics.
- Works collaboratively with physician counterparts to manage the health care needs of assigned patient populations.
- Performs initial and periodic physical examinations and medical history in an outpatient setting.
- Orders appropriate lab tests, x-rays, EKG, and comparable procedures, according to criteria previously established by the responsible physician.
- Writes orders to increase, decrease or change medication.
- Maintains required documentation and consults with physician on changes in the patient's condition.
- Counsels patients as to specifics related to their condition and recovery process, including prescribed treatments and prescribed medications.
- Functions as an active member of a multi-disciplinary team to coordinate efforts across the health system that maximize clinical and financial outcomes.
Ability to speak and read English at a level that is sufficient to satisfactorily perform the essential functions of the position. Knowledge of standard office equipment (i.e., calculator, fax, photocopier) and personal computer and computer software skills (i.e., MS Windows, Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, internet, e-mail). Windows computer skills including proficient use of keyboarding, use of mouse or keys for functions such as selecting items, use of drop down menus, scroll bars, opening folders, copying and similar operations required upon employment or within the 1st two weeks of employment to perform the essential functions of the job. Performs other duties as assigned. Follows Palomar Health rules, policies, procedures, applicable laws and standards. Carries out the mission, vision, and quality commitment of Palomar Health.

Minimum Education: As required by certification and/or licensure
Preferred Education:
Minimum Experience: 0 - 1+ year's as Physician Assistant
Preferred Experience: 3 - 5 year's related clinical practice
Required Certification: American Heart Association recognized BLS - Healthcare Provider
Preferred Certification: Not Applicable
Required License: Current CA Physician Assistant License
Preferred License: Not Applicable
