Position Summary:
The Nursing Supervisor is responsible for promoting and maintaining quality patient care through effective management of the activities of the total Patient Care Services during their assigned shift. In the absence of the Administrator and/or designee, the Nursing Supervisor has the authority and responsibility for administrative decisions while utilizing knowledge of standards, policies, and procedures outlined for the institution. The Nursing Supervisor is also responsible for facilitation of throughput, including placement of admissions and transfers.
Essential Responsibilities:
- CMMC Supervisor Nurse (RN) will report to the Nurse Leader of Central Staffing; BH and RH Supervisor Nurse (RN) will report to the V.P. of Nursing.
- Facilitation of throughput by demonstrating effective communication, utilization of throughput resources, and strong clinical decision-making skills.
- Placement of all patient admissions and transfers.
- Updates and collaborates with the Administrator on-call and/or specific department leadership.
- Assigns and monitors staff on an ongoing basis to promote effective staff utilization.
- Provides clinical support to all patient care units as needed.
- Represents Hospital/Nursing Administration in their absence.
- Leads Incident Command in the absence of an Administrator and/or designee.
- Effective communicator with the ability to create strong relationships; serves as a role model through professional behavior and open, direct communication.
- Responds to change productively, promotes enthusiasm for change.
- Leads all bed huddles within scheduled shift and participates in required leadership meetings.
Education and Experience:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and holds current licensure in the state as a registered professional nurse.
- Current Licensure from the Maine State Board of Nursing.
- A Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, or must currently be enrolled in a Bachelor’s program.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a staff nurse.
- Preferred 5 years of experience as a staff nurse.
- Clinical nursing supervisor experience with demonstrated leadership abilities.
- Possesses strong oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrates interpersonal relationships in a manner that enhances communication, promotes conflict resolution, and facilitates staff development.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Strong clinical skills, preferably in critical care, and knowledge to sustain and evaluate competence in the care of patients in various clinical settings.
- Demonstrates leadership, managerial ability, and the application of good interpersonal relationships and principles of supervision and administration.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to engage patients and team members utilizing the CMH Experience Standards.
- Demonstrated ability to direct and triage in a highly fluid dynamic operational environment.
- Ability to collaborate with all layers of the management/administration team.
