The LPN is a licensed practical nurse who possesses nursing expertise in the clinical area. He/she is directly responsible to the Director of Nursing as she/he endeavors to maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for the resident.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Assumes delegated management responsibilities in the absence of the supervisor.
- Supports the policies and procedures of the Nursing Service.
- Participates in committees to evaluate and improve standards of patient care.
- Plans, directs and supervises all nursing care in the classroom.
- Collaborates with medical staff through informal and formal meetings.
- Prepares and/or directs preparation of the shift report and communicates student conditions to supervisors.
- Assumes responsibility for individual student care when needed.
- Gives nursing care as a teaching-learning device.
- Plans, supervises and evaluates total student needs, nursing care and progress by making daily rounds and assessments of the student’s condition daily.
- Provides the assistance, direction and teaching of all nursing care to the nursing personnel in the classroom.
- Establishes working relationships with physicians to develop, coordinate, and render medical treatments and nursing care.
- Is knowledgeable in use of medications and in operation of sophisticated equipment used throughout the facility. Supervises and directs student’s clinical needs.
- Supervises and/or gives thorough individual student care reports to oncoming shift.
- Promotes progressive approach to nursing care specific to area of responsibility. Participates in student health education and rehabilitation.
- Uses systematic method to evaluate nursing care.
- Assigns duties to ancillary and professional personnel based on student needs, staff and unit needs.
- Promotes staff development by encouraging personnel to attend inservice education programs.
- Evaluates individual work performance through observation and written evaluations.
- Provides for and promotes good communication in the classroom and with facility personnel.
- Reports equipment in need of repair, completing work orders as necessary.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing or designee.

Requirements:- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
- Progressive experience in nursing practice.
- Current licensure as a practical nurse in Kentucky.
- Current knowledge and skill in nursing practice.
- Knowledge of relevant technology.
- Demonstrates effective multi-tasking and time management skills.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Can work independently with little direct supervision, and with a team.
- Accepts responsibility and is self-motivated.
- Demonstrates strong work ethic to achieve Sproutlings and organization goals.
