Overview
The Diabetes Educator identifies patient needs and priorities for education based on assessment for the pediatric patient population. Needs to be able to apply in-depth knowledge of diabetes in the care of infants, children, and adolescent patients and their families. Provide education and consultation on the management and/or prevention of diabetes.
Qualifications
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Experience Required:
- Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Possess a current Alabama State Registered Nurse License. Current CPR certification. ACLS certification preferred. Require diabetic registration and licensure or nursing licensure within the provisional period. Must be a Certified Diabetes Educator or working toward certification in diabetes education within the provisional period.
- Experience: 2 years of experience in the field of diabetes care and education is preferred.
- Additional Skills/Abilities: Knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice to give and evaluate patient care. Skill in identifying problems and recommending solutions. Skill in writing and maintaining records and reports. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, families, physicians, employees, and staff. Ability to communicate clearly. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to maintain a safe working environment. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information. Knowledge of the organization’s policies and procedures. Upholds effective work habits including, but not limited to, regular attendance, teamwork, initiative, dependability, and promptness.
