Overview
The Development Manager is vital as Advocates works to engage and grow our donor base through on-going, regular activities and communications. They will partner with the Vice President of Development to cultivate and solicit donors and sponsors. They will also create all development communications related to engaging and connecting with donors, families, and prospective donors. The ideal candidate is a creative, flexible, organized, collaborative individual with the ability to thrive in a fast-moving, fluid environment. Advocates hosts various events year-round, and there will be occasional “after-hours” work on evenings/weekends and occasional travel within Massachusetts. This position is hybrid with the expectation of being in the office at least twice a week.

Responsibilities
- Create annual fund appeals in partnership with Annual Fund Coordinator.
- Create Annual Report in partnership with graphic designer.
- Solicit special event sponsors and other donors.
- Write personal acknowledgement letters for major gift donors.
- Create year-end reports to foundation funders.
- Develop and manage strategic communication plan geared to families, donors, and potential donors.
- Identify and create additional communication opportunities including action alerts, one-topic updates, social media posts, and messages from CEO.
- Work with program management to write and send electronic family newsletters.
- Launch and manage new electronic donor newsletter.
- Assist Event Manager with event-related collateral.
- Attend and participate in supervision and staff meetings.
- Adhere to all principles related to The Advocates Way.
- Ensure that people we support are treated with dignity and respect in accordance with Advocates' Human Rights policies.
- Perform all duties in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience required.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills (written and oral).
- Ability to compose professional correspondence and meet deadlines with excellent proofreading skills related to English language, grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Demonstrated skills, knowledge, and experience in the design and execution of donor communications.
- High proficiency in project management, attention to detail, prioritization of work, and organizational skills required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, Google, and donor databases (Raiser’s Edge preferred).
- Critical thinking and data analysis skills.
- Ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines.
- Ability to thrive in both team and independent environments.
- Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
- Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
- Must hold a valid driver’s license and have access to an operational and insured vehicle.
- Strongly prefer a candidate that will have a demonstrated understanding of and competence in serving culturally diverse populations.
