Responsibilities
- Abides by and enforces all compliance requirements and policies and performs these responsibilities in an ethical manner consistent with the organization’s values.
- Adheres to hospital policies including confidentiality.
- Demonstrates CPR according to American Heart Association standards.
- Performs two-dimensional ultrasonic recordings and Doppler flow analyses of cardiac and vascular structures using ultrasound equipment.
- Obtains and records appropriate velocities and calculates measurements according to procedure protocols.
- Provides accurate preliminary reports to physicians on all vascular studies per department protocols.
- Documents all procedures performed including procedure worksheets, patient demographics, and various log books.
- Accesses the Clinical Information System using a PC.
- Assists the RN and physician in preparation and discharge of patients having special procedures.
- Participates in departmental research projects, quality monitoring and statistical information as assigned.
- Maintains a clean and orderly work area and reports equipment failure/problems to supervisor.
- Completes all mandatory unit, educational and hospital requirements.
- Utilizes cost effective practices in performing all aspects of the job.
- Demonstrates the ability to provide competent patient care to various patient populations.
- Communicates and uses appropriate customer relation skills with physicians, patients, families and healthcare team.
- Participates on committees and in Performance Improvement activities as assigned.
- Regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined and overtime and call as required.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent and completion of an approved cardiac or vascular ultrasound training program from an accredited institution, or two years of cardiac or vascular ultrasound experience. RDCS and RVT registered with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers or RCS and RVS registered with Cardiovascular Credentialing International is required.
