The Organization
Pullman Regional Hospital is an independent, public, critical access hospital located in Pullman, Washington - in the heart of the Palouse, a vast geographic area spanning southeastern Washington and northern Idaho. Overlooking the Washington State University Campus, Pullman Regional Hospital includes a 95,000 square foot level IV trauma center with 25 patient beds, 4 ORs, 24-hour emergency care, and a network of a dozen clinics serving the Palouse region and beyond.
Since the construction of a state-of-the-art, 25-bed hospital in 2004, Pullman Regional Hospital has expanded its healthcare services to include clinics such as primary care, general surgery, cardiology, and urology. Over the past 20 years, the hospital has grown from 7,000 emergency visits to 14,500; surgical cases have grown by 35%, and a dozen clinics have been added. In 2023, Pullman Regional Hospital welcomed its first cohort of Family Medicine Residents onto campus in partnership with Washington State University’s Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine.
Pullman Regional Hospital is preparing to embark on a $45-50M, 5+ year phased project that includes a remodel and expansion of the hospital and new medical office building on campus. Funded through a $27.2M bond, hospital operations, financing, and philanthropy, the tentative date to break ground on the project is Spring 2025.
Pullman Regional Hospital is the third largest employer in the community with more than 600 employees, including 118 employed nurses. In FY2023, Pullman Regional Hospital had more than 1,100 admissions; 4,880 outpatient surgery cases and more than 54,000 physician visits. Pullman Regional Hospital is strong financially with FY2023 net revenue of approximately $113M and 137 days cash on hand.
The Position
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) is a member of the Senior Leadership Team and is responsible for leading, planning, organizing and directing the overall operations of Nursing Services for the enterprise. The CNO will oversee a total staff complement of approximately 200 nurses. This individual has accountability for developing and implementing standards of nursing practice to ensure delivery of quality patient care standards.
The CNO collaborates with other executives, department leaders, and stakeholders to achieve organizational objectives including but not limited to a strong culture, reliability in quality, safe, and efficient care delivery and ultimately contributes to the long-term success of the organization and community. The CNO will provide leadership direction to the professional development of the nursing team and collaborates with all levels of nursing staff, interdisciplinary teams, executive leaders, and other stakeholders.

Spokane, WA (population 447,000) is 75 miles North and Seattle, WA (population 724,000) is 280 miles West. A regional airport in Pullman makes distanced travel easy and efficient.

The base salary range for this position is $230,000 to $270,000; however, base pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
