The GM is responsible for the store's overall day-to-day operations, including training and developing effective store associates to achieve desired sales and financial results. The GM is also responsible for coaching and developing all store associates through formal and informal interactions. As the General Manager, you must be a role model and demonstrate the company's respect, honesty, and integrity values.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Encourage and promote a customer-first approach to growth by creating an enthusiastic, personalized customer service atmosphere. Resolve customer relations issues. Provide leadership to develop and maintain positive public relations and involvement with the community.
- Communicate Company goals, objectives, policies, and procedures to the Department Managers and Associates.
- Provide guidance and instruction to Department Managers and Associates.
- Responsible for the profitability of the store. Practice aggressive cost control when developing the operating budget and controlling all in-store operating, maintenance, and supply costs. Ensure that individual departments effectively schedule work hours and control overtime expenditures. Follow proper administrative procedures and complete all required reports.
- Plan Company ads, merchandising, and operating procedures. Meet frequently with department Managers to review ads, sales plans, store conditions, and promotions.
- Energize Managers and Associates through positive leadership. Develop, coach, and train associates with the support of Human Resources.
- Take personnel actions such as hiring, layoffs, discipline, and terminations. Identify associates' development needs for future management positions. Implement company training programs. Ensure compliance with established Human Resources policies, procedures, and programs with the support of Human Resources.
- Responsible for inventory of all merchandise, supplies, and equipment. Recommend expenditures for improvement or repair of store equipment and building. Implement and execute emergency procedures in the event of equipment and computer software malfunctions.
- Responsible for processing invoices related to operational expenses. Assist Managers with processing vendor inquiries, costs, etc.
- Responsible for staying abreast of market conditions, focusing on understanding trends, competitor activities, and store seasonality.
- Accountable for maintaining product quality and safety & sanitation standards in all departments. Ensure compliance with OSHA standards.
- Responsible for store property, maintain the building inside and out, and work with department managers as necessary.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, or related field preferred
- 7-10 years of retail experience with 5+ years of management experience
- Detail-oriented, with strong customer service and problem-solving skills
- Ability to initiate improvements within the store and revenue growth
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
