Marcum Search has been retained by our growing client in the building supply industry to search for their first COO. The ideal candidate will be entrepreneurial in nature, and have a high level of accountability.
Summary
Our privately held building material brand marketing and manufacturing companies are growing and have combined North American revenue north of 50M. We need an operational leader that can help assure our continued growth while maintaining our core value centered culture. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), you will be responsible for benchmarking and leading operational excellence, building and implementing competitive sales, marketing, and manufacturing processes and assuring that share growth goals are realized through competitive levels of risk and investment. If you have successfully led growth of a similar sized company or larger, you should apply for this role.

Leadership

Process Optimization
- Formulate strategy by studying major competitor’s strengths and weaknesses.
- Drive the companies toward investments in market indicated competitive advantages.
- Study existing processes to improve reliability and assure competitive value.
- Study and implement best practices to assure efficient and reliable workflows.
- Be curious about uncommon improvement opportunities and justify related investment.
- Evaluate and implement technology that enhances operational efficiency.
- Foster a curious, continuous improvement, and innovation focused culture.
- Balance goal realization commitments with operational needs.
Financial, Risk, and Compliance Management
- Take responsibility with the CFO for managing and optimizing financial performance.
- Develop budgets and key performance indicators (KPIs). Report results to leadership.
- Anticipate potential risks and implement strategies that mitigate them.
- Develop and maintain robust contingency plans that ensure business continuity.
- Develop and maintain robust safety protocols that ensure employee safety.
- Ensure that the companies operate within relevant laws, regulations, and standards.
- Present trends and opportunities to lead improvement and support investment.
Qualifications
- Experience as a senior leader, preferably as a COO or similar.
- Excellent strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent leadership and interpersonal abilities.
- Experience with share gain strategy, process optimization, and change management.
- Financial acumen and budget management skills.
- Engaging communication and negotiation skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, engineering, or a related field; MBA preferred.
- A personality that is insightful, competitive, analytical, forward thinking, and persistently curious.
- Integrity centered, naturally collaborative, and inherently net positive personal values.
