Zions Capital Markets is hiring a Capital Markets Operations Leader who is responsible for managing and directing the operations function within the Capital Markets division supporting Sales & Trading (Interest Rate Risk Management, FX, and Commodities) and Real Estate Capital Markets. This is a new leadership position focused on consolidating existing operational activities together with a focus on maximizing efficiency through consistent processes, developing and enhancing risk controls, and ensuring full adherence to applicable internal policies, regulations, and market best practices. This position will report to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Zions Capital Markets.
As the leader of this function, you will give vision and direction to operational capabilities while ensuring the ability to support significant growth of these businesses utilizing a controlled, agile, and scalable approach. Product focus areas include derivatives (interest rate swaps, commodities, foreign exchange, credit, structured products, and equity index options), foreign exchange, and syndicated loans.
Essential Functions:
- Work with the COO and division heads to develop and implement a cohesive operations strategy to support a growing capital markets platform in an efficient and effective manner.
- Manage execution of daily trade/position lifecycle events, trade affirmations, position reconciliations, pre/post-settlement activities, P&L, margin, regulatory reporting, and client onboarding activities.
- Develop an effective control framework that fully meets Audit, Compliance and regulatory requirements. Maintain a culture where processes and controls are continually monitored and evaluated with risks and breaks escalated and resolved in a timely basis.
- Development, maintenance, and enhancement of risk management documents (e.g. process flows, controls, and procedures).
- Lead or assist with implementing industry or internal initiatives.
- Daily collaboration with Capital Markets business heads/employees and other key stakeholders including Risk Management, Accounting/Finance, Treasury, Back Office, Legal, etc. to ensure successful business and risk management outcomes for the Capital Markets division.
- Create & deliver executive communications, reporting, & metrics of the supported businesses and Operations function itself.
- Develop robust processes to ensure all service levels are documented and met.
- Provide guidance and aid team members on market knowledge, client servicing and operation process.
- Implementing a successful people and engagement strategy to help attract, develop, retain, and recognize a diverse and talented workforce.
- Drive results and foster a culture of excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement within the team.
- In coordination with the COO and Capital Markets business heads, develop and manage Operations department budget and headcount plans to meet agreed upon financial targets.
- Routine travel to office locations with Operations team members and/or business constituents.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
- Requires a Bachelor's degree in finance, business, accounting, or a related field and 10+ years of Business Management, Management Consulting, Business Operations and/or Project Management experience in Financial Services. A combination of education and experience may meet job requirements.
Qualifications:
- Expert knowledge of capital markets products, services, and markets including Derivatives (Interest Rates, Commodities, Foreign Exchange, Structured Products, and Credit), Foreign Exchange, and Fixed Income.
- Expert level knowledge and understanding of all trade/position lifecycle events across all products.
- Expert knowledge and significant experience with Calypso required. Experience with Spectrum, and/or Bloomberg TOMS a plus.
- Expert knowledge of capital markets industry norms, best practices, etc.
- Deep knowledge of applicable capital markets regulations (OCC, FINRA, MSRB, CFTC, etc.). Experience leading implementations of new regulatory requirements for operational teams.
- Knowledge and understanding of process/control design, modeling, and development.
- Ability to identify risk factors and ensure enactment of appropriate controls.
- Prior leadership experience including managing multiple direct reports including managers. Strong focus on talent development at all levels within the organization.
- Ability to establish and build trust with professionals throughout the business as a leader, advisor, and business partner to the organization with a clear client and risk management orientation.
- Ability to conceptualize aspects of the organization's model (staffing, process/control consistency, etc.) and its future evolution.
- Excellent analytical, quantitative, and communication (both verbal and written) skills.
- Strong and influential communicator who is articulate, able to easily connect with senior leaders and simultaneously with junior members of the team as well. Demonstrates ability to impact and influence those around them.
- High level of focus on work quality and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and track details.
- Experience in financial planning processes, including budgeting/forecasting.
