In this position you will assist in the development of transportation design projects for clients such as FDOT, counties and municipalities. A strong background in FDOT and/or Florida's Turnpike Enterprise/Toll Agency design policies and procedures is preferred. This position will be the primary technical point of contact for more complex design tasks and projects that require a higher level of understanding and project knowledge. Supervision received is essentially administrative, with assignments given in terms of specific objectives. Work at this level requires the candidate to be a self-starter who needs minimal to no supervision and has extensive technical experience and the ability to work alone on tasks as well as in a team atmosphere. As a Team Leader, this individual will be responsible for leading a team of junior engineers and technicians on a wide variety of roadway design projects. This will include, but not be limited to providing technical direction and oversight, mentoring junior staff, ensuring all subordinate staff have the required work for the week, and quality control for their work product. The candidate will work in a fast-paced engineering environment where projects may be derived from a number of delivery methods including conventional publicly bid projects and design build.
Responsibilities
- Oversee engineering designs including geometric alignments, profiles, cross sections, construction, and maintenance of traffic details.
- Oversee the creation of engineering documents including Typical Section Packages, Pavement Design Reports, and Variation/Exception Reports.
- Perform advanced MicroStation/Open Roads processes.
- Internally manage a team of up to 4 engineers developing plans, calculations, and specifications.
- Coordinate plans, calculations, and specifications amongst multi-discipline engineering teams.
- Perform internal Quality Control to ensure designs, plans and calculations are complete and accurate.
- Assist Project Managers in a variety of project administrative duties.
- Participate in business development activities, assisting in the creation of letters of response and technical proposals/presentations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an accredited four-year college.
- FL Professional Engineering Registration
- Proficiency in advanced MicroStation/Open Roads processes required.
- Experience with 3D Corridor Modeling a strong plus.
- Drainage design is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of FDOT plans preparation criteria and design standards.
- Knowledge of other transportation disciplines including drainage, signing and pavement marking, signalization and intelligent transportation systems.
- Strong work ethic and ability to organize and manage small to medium sized engineering design teams.
- Exceptional verbal communication and technical writing skills.
- Ability to train and mentor entry level and junior staff.
