Job Summary
The IT Change Management Director has expert knowledge of organizational development, effectiveness, and strategic planning. In consultation with the IT executive team, the change director leads IT change and improvement services for a growing department of over 900 staff and leaders. Responsibilities include change assessment and change impact analyses across IT and related mission stakeholders. The role reports to the IT Chief of Staff and will be responsible for delivering the successful adoption and implementation of a new IT operating model, minimizing disruption and resistance while maximizing the benefits of change. The role will also be responsible for identifying, proposing, leading, and managing process improvement initiatives that optimize IT value delivery and align the IT organization with its mission priorities and commitments. The change director fosters a culture of continuous improvement and change readiness within the organization.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include:
- IT Change Management Program - Working collaboratively with IT senior leaders and UCSF mission change leaders, will design, develop and operate the IT change management capability for UCSF IT. Program deliverables:
- Provide change management leadership for the department-wide transition to a helix-based IT operating model.
- Ensure executive leadership support through successful proposal of a comprehensive change management plan.
- Guide and collaborate with IT leaders to divide the vast landscape of UCSF IT into useful domains and sub-domains. Ensure that the scope, roles, and accountabilities of all domains are finalized and documented.
- Leveraging the results of pilot efforts, the experiences of early adopters, and data collected during readiness assessments, develop a rollout plan, with timeline, for approximately 900 IT professionals across all identified domains.
- Develop training materials for multiple audiences to:
- Introduce the operating model and role-based teams.
- Guide transition tasks, including the development of team purpose and vision statements.
- Support necessary skills, including facilitative leadership.
- Create channels to effectively predict, identify and mitigate resistance.
- Collaborate with IT Communications to develop and deliver timely and effective change communications.
- Develop and monitor metrics for assessing the extent and permanence of change adoption; refine strategy or tactics appropriately in response.
- Identify, develop and implement change management initiatives for similar organizational transitions that optimize value delivery and bring the IT organization into alignment with its mission, priorities and commitments.
- In this capacity, establish a continuous improvement program to house, guide, and direct departmental improvement efforts in support of UCSF True North goals.
- Collaborate with IT Finance, IT Administration, and IT portfolio management to support process improvement initiatives, and support value improvement efforts, leveraging change management principles and practices.
- Collaborate with the IT Communications leader and team to develop and deliver effective change communications for all assigned change and improvement initiatives.
- Provide ongoing leadership, guidance, and training on change management principles to leaders across IT. Working either directly or consultatively as required, ensure that all improvement initiatives reflect change management best practices for:
- Identifying the need for an improvement initiative, including how to collect, analyze and present data and other information.
- Engaging and influencing stakeholders at all organizational levels to gain support for improvement initiatives.
- Creating and delivering effective training materials both to introduce specific initiatives and build relevant skills, such as facilitative leadership.
- Developing communication plans for change efforts.
- Identifying and managing resistance.
- Developing and monitoring adoption metrics and making recommendations for improvement as required.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
- 8 years of demonstrated change management experience in large, complex organizations, working with a broad stakeholder community to effectively deliver change programs.
- Requires highly developed diplomacy, influential and interpersonal skills to work effectively across the organization at all levels.
- Expert knowledge of the organizational development and effectiveness field, theories, models to assess, design and implement customized organizational interventions.
- Able to interpret and communicate, both verbally and in writing, highly complex information in a clear and concise manner.
- Possesses expert consulting, relationship building, and strategic thinking skills.
- Demonstrates expert analytical, problem-solving, project planning and implementation skills.
- Have expert written, verbal and presentation skills for influencing and facilitating sustained change.
- Demonstrates expert strategic-thinking and consulting skills in guiding the organization toward workable strategies and solutions.
- Demonstrates ability to learn quickly, reason, synthesize and generalize based on information obtained; sound judgment; ability to draw unbiased conclusions.
- Highly-skilled in navigating organizational complexity.
- Identifies opportunities to apply best practice change management methodology to improve departmental operations.
- Knowledge of the consulting process to effectively lead highly significant engagements from inception to conclusion.
- Ability to focus on priorities, strategies, and vision.
- Ability to handle multiple constituencies, agendas, engagements and tasks, and to deal productively with ambiguity and conflict.
- Ability to influence people at all levels. Ability to persuade through both logic and appeal to positive motivations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Change Management Professional (CCMP).
- Prosci Change Management Certification Program.
