The Chancellor of UC Santa Cruz has called the Division of Social Sciences the heart and soul of the university, and for good reason. The division is the largest academic unit on campus.
JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Planning and Finance, the Divisional Finance Director is the principal budget analyst responsible for a range of key business functions in the areas of financial and budgetary management, accounting control, fiscal planning, analysis, and reporting.
The Divisional Finance Director oversees one financial analyst and is tasked with the core functions of resource planning and analysis and budgetary oversight and administration of divisional funds.
APPOINTMENT INFORMATION
Budgeted Salary: $115,000 - $135,600 / Annually. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.

JOB DUTIES
- 35% - Financial Reporting
- Develop methods, formats, and procedures for fiscal reporting.
- Work closely with the Assistant Dean to identify reporting needs.
- Provide a routine portfolio of management-level reports.
- 30% - Fiscal Management and Control
- Ensure an effective system of internal controls.
- Maintain divisional chart of accounts and org hierarchy.
- Provide financial policy advice to the Dean and others.
- Analyze, problem-solve, and resolve operational issues.
- 25% - Resource Planning and Analysis
- Perform continuous budget review and analysis.
- Prepare analyses of complex financial issues for decision-making.
- Provide detailed budget charts, tables, and spreadsheets as needed.
- 10% - Supervision
- Provide training, performance management, and professional development.
- Conduct regular unit staff meetings.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience.
- Extensive knowledge of finance policies and practices.
- Substantial experience in analysis and interpretation of financial policies.
- Ability to prepare and present financial materials.
- Advanced experience in the use of campus financial systems.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate.
- Advanced skills in the use of spreadsheet and database software.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills.
- Ability to discern priorities and work with budgetary details.
- Excellent customer-service skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Thorough knowledge of internal control practices.
- Advanced knowledge of higher education planning and budgeting principles.
- Knowledge of University Information Systems.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check.
- Ability to work long periods of time at a computer.
- Selected candidate will have the option to work a hybrid work schedule.
