Medical Director Chief of Emergency Department

Our client is a 100+ bed acute care community hospital which boasts some of the finest technology and staff in all of upstate New York. They are an ANCC Magnet designated hospital for nursing excellence.
This position is split 40% administrative (salary exempt) and 60% clinical (hourly). Clinical responsibilities include the medical evaluation, treatment initiation, and coordination of a follow-up treatment plan for Emergency Department patients. Provides high-quality patient care in a caring and professional manner. In addition to working clinical shifts, the successful candidate will be administratively responsible for providing overall direction and oversight to ensure high-quality medical care is provided to all patients in the Emergency Department (ED). Works in conjunction with other Clinical Chiefs and Hospital departments to ensure effective delivery of various services within the department and a smooth transition of care from the ED to inpatient settings. Addresses outpatient medical needs in a timely manner and arranges appropriate follow-up plans. Works with the ED Nurse Manager to ensure ED nursing and physician care are provided in an organized and coordinated manner. Fosters educational opportunities, staff selection and hiring, coaching, and professional discipline. Responsible for assuring overall quality, safety, customer satisfaction, and clinical practice within the service areas of responsibility. Monitors and assures compliance with departmental policies and procedures as well as outside regulatory requirements. Monitors and assures meeting budgeted financial plans for areas of responsibility.
Education:
- M.D. or D.O. degree.
- Must have NYS unrestricted medical license and meet the NYS Department of Health 405 Code requirements to direct emergency services for Hospital.
- Board Certification by an ACGME accredited specialty board.
- American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) Board Certification strongly preferred.
- Three years of emergency medicine experience required, with candidate showing professional growth and leadership skill development.
- Prior administrative experience preferred.
- Must have ability to work closely with others and have strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Current NYSDOH 405 Code requirements: a NYS licensed and registered physician who is board-certified [or board-admissible for a period not to exceed five years after the physician first attained board admissibility] in emergency medicine, surgery, internal medicine, pediatrics, or family practice, and who is currently certified in advanced trauma life support (ATLS) or has training and experience equivalent to ATLS; and successfully completed a course in advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) or have had training and experience equivalent to ACLS.
