ABOUT THE ROLE
The Managing Director, Los Angeles position is based in Los Angeles and oversees the coordination, administration, and all essential functions of the Up2Us Coach Program, including the supervision of Los Angeles-based staff members.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Staff Support
- Coach and mentor staff as appropriate to improve performance and professional skills.
- Implement the performance management process for all staff, including conducting annual performance reviews.
- Collaborate with relevant teams to ensure that all relevant program staff members receive an orientation to the organization and that appropriate training is provided.
- Report and communicate to the Assistant National Director, Up2Us Coach, about staff discipline, when necessary, using appropriate techniques.
- Provide oversight of regional spreadsheets, compliance measures, and data.
- Recruit, interview, and select staff with appropriate skills and personal abilities (when required).
- Ensure program staff act in accordance with program expectations and values as it relates to host site and service member experience.
- Collaborate with the Assistant National Director, Up2Us Coach, to develop and facilitate ongoing professional development sessions for program staff.
- Provide ongoing oversight of all programmatic functions within assigned markets.
Program Leadership & Strategy
- Collaborate with the Assistant National Director, Up2Us Coach, and the Senior National Director, AmeriCorps Programs, to create and implement a strategic plan for growing Up2Us Sports coaching in new and existing markets.
- Oversee and participate in partnership outreach calls and relationship management.
- Collaborate with Marketing to build visibility in your market.
- Collaborate with Development to build funding partnerships and help maintain local relationships with funders in your market.
- Help develop project plans and high-level strategy to align the AmeriCorps Coach Program with the national service requirements.
- Monitor structure of Up2Us Coach program as it relates to the needs of coaches and their local programs.
- Coordinate with the Operations department to streamline, standardize, and formalize processes and procedures for the Coach Program.
- Participate and co-facilitate bi-weekly coach team calls.
Planning and Organization
- Plan the delivery of the overall program and its activities in accordance with the mission and the goals of the organization.
- Develop new initiatives to support the strategic direction of the organization.
- Ensure that program activities operate within the policies and procedures of the organization.
- Ensure that program activities comply with all relevant legislation and professional standards.
- Develop forms and records to document program activities as needed.
- Oversee the collection and maintenance of records on the clients of the program for statistical purposes according to the confidentiality/privacy policy of the organization.
- Additional travel outside of host site visits may be required on an as-needed basis, both locally and nationally.
- Other duties as determined by your supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A minimum of 7 years of experience in a nonprofit or similar (academic or government) management position.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- A strong understanding of both theory and practice of sports-based youth development.
- Experience in managing a highly qualified team of professionals.
- Significant experience working with underserved children and youth in sports programs in diverse communities.
- Experience in collaborating among various stakeholders.
- Ability to liaise among staff, coach force, local organizations, and others.
- Ability to multitask efficiently and manage programs at multiple remote locations.
- Superior interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Computer literacy and well-developed technology skills.
COMPENSATION
- Salary Range: $62,000 to $72,000 per year
