Job Description
The Director of Facilities is responsible for all aspects of Facilities on campus and campus owned property, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Director will establish, and document, procedures for maintenance, repairs and/or replacement of college facilities, grounds, vehicles and systems equipment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan, coordinate, organize and manage in-house custodial and facilities maintenance staff, including but not limited to, working supervisors, grounds workers, custodial staff and clerical staff.
- Identify and maintain list of critical college infrastructures and any threats, hazards and risks posed; develops plans for prevention, protection, mitigation, response and recovery.
- Maintain department repair and capital improvement budgets.
- Maintain current knowledge in the field of facility management/maintenance. Establish, implement and update facility-related policies and procedures; comply with federal, state and local laws and regulations; follow all safety precautions/standards and college policies and procedures.
- Plan, develop and prioritize projects and weekly work plans; ensure materials are ordered and projects are designed and planned with the facilities and custodial team.
- Plan work/staff schedules; evaluate and monitor projects with regards to progress and cost.
- Coordinate and monitor status of work orders, estimates, requests, purchases, material and equipment.
- Coordinate with any staff managing any capital construction projects.
- Coordinate with the College’s Safety and Security leader.
- Supervise or coordinate with landscaping services and college employees to maintain the outdoor grounds.
- Ensure compliance, in partnership with others, concerning applicable building and safety codes, hazardous waste disposal, OSH, DEP, hazardous materials, etc.
- Oversee and interact with contracted services for facility maintenance, repairs and upgrades.
- Variable work schedule covering days and evenings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in building and facilities management, engineering, or a related field (required).
- Three to five years’ experience in facilities or building operations (required).
- A working knowledge of Federal, State, and local building codes as well as environmental regulations.
- Must be able to document, interpret, and communicate institutional policies, plans, objectives, rules and regulations.
- Must be able to organize, coordinate, and supervise outsourced and in-house custodial and mechanical staff of more than 10 employees.
- Ability to operate departmental equipment, including but not limited to software applications, two-way radios, telephones and fire extinguishers. A willingness to learn more, including the environmental controls for the college. A willingness to obtain appropriate boiler certifications.
- Must be able to respond to emergency situations requiring physical stamina.
- Must be able to lift, drag, and carry heavy objects up to 70 pounds.
- Ability to work, organize & operate with a high level of efficiency under pressure & stress.
- Ability to effectively handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and make critical decisions that affect campus-wide response & reaction.
- An ability to communicate effectively and helpfully under difficult time pressures.
Salary: $79,000 - $87,000 per year commensurate with education/experience.
