The School District of Onalaska is accepting applications for a head custodian at Onalaska Middle School.
JOB GOAL:
- To maintain a clean, safe and healthful school environment that maximizes educational opportunities for all students, facilitates the performance of duties by teachers and other staff, and serves the needs of the community members using the facility.
- To communicate in a professional manner and maintain positive professional relationships with fellow employees and others.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Direct custodial staff on daily building needs to ensure safe and efficient use of building and accommodation of building activities.
- Maintain gas fed boilers, forced air-heating systems, roof top unit air conditioning systems.
- Maintain manual/pneumatic/electrical/HVAC controls.
- Maintain building electrical systems (120V, 240V) and both electrical motors and gasoline engines used in building equipment.
- Equipment: Clean, change oil and filters, maintain boilers, repair motors, clean univents, thermostats, etc; develop and follow routine maintenance plan for heating/ventilating/cooling systems; and keep appropriate maintenance records.
- Lunchroom: Set up tables, dispose of waste and clean lunchroom on a daily basis as required.
- Floors: Maintain carpeting (clip loose threads), repair loose floor tile, and maintain terrazzo.
- Report promptly to director of building & grounds any equipment problems or failures.
- Communicate with office personnel to complete daily needs.
- Monitor building, sidewalks, and entries to maintain safe and clean conditions.
- Perform other duties assigned by the director of buildings and grounds or building principal.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Possess high school diploma or equivalent.
- Working knowledge of general maintenance, refrigeration, and air conditioning, basic electricity, motors, heating controls, and industrial safety.
- Self-motivated, leadership abilities and pride in workmanship.
- Ability to show a personal interest in maintaining a high degree of cleanliness in buildings and grounds.
- Ability to develop and maintain positive work relations with all school personnel.
- Ability to communicate the needs of the school with others and respond to those needs.
- Ability and desire to become part of the total school team.
