Other Conditions: General funds, to begin approximately January 2025, contingent on satisfactory performance, operational and program needs, actual staffing requirements, and availability of funds. Position may be converted from 9-month to 11-month or 11-month to 9-month, as operational needs are required.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and teach transfer and non-transfer level courses in the Computing, Security & Networking Technology (CSNT) program. Courses may include, but are not limited to, the following related technology areas: Microcomputer Desktop and Hardware Support, Programming and Scripting, Database Systems and Administration, UNIX/Linux System Administration, Windows System Administration, TCP/IP Networking, Telecommunications, System and Network Administration, Web and Mobile Systems Administration, Information Security and Assurance, Virtualization, and Cloud Infrastructure and Services; Intro to Information and Computer Science.
- Plan, organize, and execute instructional and non-instructional assignments, materials, and syllabi. Instructional assignments may involve hybrid/distance education and early college high school instruction.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to develop an understanding of student needs in discipline or area of primary responsibility; and identify, develop, and implement appropriate strategies that meet student and community needs.
- Work collaboratively with UH West Oahu to develop, revise, update, and/or expand curriculum for the CSNT AS and BAS in Information Security and Assurance including credit, noncredit, and hybrid learning curriculum with remote lab access.
- Assess and prepare course and program objectives, and student and program learning outcomes.
- Provide departmental leadership and direction in relation to: emerging training needs as identified by the ICT industry and related industries, workforce initiatives, program review, and other assessment-related activities. Responsible for collecting relevant data and annual reports for the program.
- Provide guidance and instruction in the development of off-campus and/or non-credit CSNT/ICS programs.
- Manage and oversee HonCC’s national certifications including but not limited to the National Centers of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity and the Program of Study Validation.
- Develop and maintain working relationships with industry constituents (e.g., Advisory Committee).
- Provide academic support to students such as advising, job and internship referrals.
- Provide service to the college and the community, including conducting in-service training, assisting with campus-related activities, participating in faculty and administrative committees as assigned.
- Coordinate course scheduling and program budgeting.
- Oversee lecturers, evaluate and support their effectiveness in the classroom.
- Coordinate and implement education and training opportunities with state, county, and community agencies as appropriate.
- Maintain office hours as determined by teaching schedule. Must be available for evening, weekend, and off-campus assignments (e.g., military bases). To teach on a military base, Department of Defense security clearance is required.

Minimum Qualifications
- Instructor, CC: Master's Degree in one of the following fields: information & computer science, information technology, system and network administration, information security and assurance, or electrical engineering or computer engineering; OR Bachelor's Degree in one of the following fields: information & computer science, information technology, system and network administration, information security and assurance, or electrical engineering or computer engineering AND 3 years work experience in one or more related fields of information & computer science, information technology, system and network administration, information security and assurance, or electrical engineering or computer engineering.
- Assistant Professor, CC: Master’s in the academic disciplines cited above AND five (5) years progressively responsible work experience in one or more related fields of information & computer science, information technology, system and network administration, information security and assurance, or electrical engineering or computer engineering; OR Bachelor’s in the academic disciplines cited above AND eight (8) years progressively responsible work experience in one or more related fields of information & computer science, information technology, system and network administration, information security and assurance, or electrical engineering or computer engineering.
Note: Minimum qualifications (degrees and credits) must be earned from regionally or nationally accredited postsecondary colleges and universities recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education and met by the effective date of appointment.
Desirable Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability in teaching CSNT courses through classroom and/or distance education modalities.
- Demonstrated ability to develop new courses and/or programs.
- Demonstrated ability to understand problems from a broad interactive perspective and use reasoning to discern underlying organizational principles and issues when problem-solving, and apply creative thinking to resolve problems in new unprecedented approaches.
- Demonstrated ability to actively lead and collaborate with industry and/or community organizations.
- Computer or network certifications in a related technology area listed above.
- Experience with assessment.
