The Director, Product Marketing is responsible for driving product success through positioning and messaging, communicating product value, and increasing product adoption and retention. The core of this role is to provide the answers to the following questions to Product Managers for their strategy and roadmap development:
- Who is the product for?
- What value does the product provide for the customer?
- How does the product help customers get value and how do we measure that value?
- How do we price and package the products for optimum revenue and customer growth?
This role is perfect for a leader with an ownership mentality for driving impact, pursues data-informed insights, focuses on customer empathy and product craft, and loves to learn and execute. To be successful in this role, you need to have a bias for action, and be comfortable guiding decision-making based on a combination of hard data and incomplete or ambiguous information.
In this role, you will:
- Spend significant time with customers and non-customers to gather external insights. This includes managing portfolio/product-focused customer advisory groups, attending industry conferences, being point of contact with internal client insights team and creating win-loss insight.
- Create and deliver a new and strategic pricing model for Tax.com’s 17 current products.
- Partner with Head of Product, Sales, Marketing and Rev Ops to create and deliver.
- Serve as a Tax.com/Product Management representative in Tax as a Service efforts, advocating for customer voice of SaaS customers resulting in demand creation, adoption, and retention of Tax.com customers in alliance with existing service offerings.
- Lead market research efforts to support roadmap priorities and create enterprise value through in-market delivery of products and enhancements.
- Partner with Product Managers, Sales & Marketing, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure product roadmaps and go-to-market strategies are developed with customer’s needs in mind. Emphasis on continuous feedback loop development.
- Create and maintain Tax.com personas and customer journeys in collaboration with the User Experience.
- Represent the voice of the customer in drafting value propositions to defined segments, personas, etc.
- Suggest new product enhancement ideas and accompanying business cases that fit under the Tax.com vision and portfolio.
- Work with product management teams to define goals and associated metrics for feature/product launches.
In this position you will build and lead our first dedicated product marketing team – with a clear focus on software/technology and software platforms. At times, you will build and manage targeted third-party assistance into our various projects as appropriate.
You will bring knowledge on methods of gathering and analysis of market data and research for B2B software sales. Your ability to package data into insights so that the organization can define, quantify/qualify market/product strategy decisions, plans and targets will be the center of your mission.
You’ll bring experience in go-to-market planning underpinned by research to support sales targeting & solution positioning, in areas such as:
- Competitive differentiation
- Pricing model creation and delivery
- New product launches
- Market feedback loops
- New market creation & established market innovation

Compensation:
- For certain California based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $175,500.00 - $250,800.00
- For other California based locations, the base salary hiring range for this position is $161,000.00 - $229,900.00
- For Colorado based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $153,500.00 - $219,450.00
- For New York based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $175,500.00 - $250,800.00
- For Washington based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $161,000.00 - $229,900.00
