Who You'll Work With
You'll be based in either the Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, New York, San Francisco, Toronto or Washington DC office as part of our Internal Communications and Engagement team. You will join a group of communications professionals within the firm's Reach and Engagement function. These colleagues help ensure that appropriate insights reach designated audiences, building awareness and engagement with McKinsey's distinctive knowledge on a variety of topics. They shape the way the firm connects with people - from clients to employees to alumni - strengthening institutional relationships, connections, and affiliations.
In addition to working with communications and media relations colleagues across the firm, you will work with the Partner responsible for Global Engagement and Internal Communications, Managing Partner for North America and their team, and Global Director of Reputation Risk.
Your impact within our firm
In this role, you will be responsible for increasing engagement/connectivity. You will help tell the region's story internally - both from a people perspective as well as the impact colleagues are helping create across North America. You will help address potential risk situations in collaboration with the firm global communications team.
You will develop proactive and reactive internal communications and engagement strategies and materials to help engage colleagues in North America on firm strategy as well as the firm's purpose, mission and values. You will provide internal communications advice and hands-on, executional support to firm leaders at a local, national, and regional level. You will also help create internal events/conferences, recognizing a high bar for innovation in a post-COVID world. Leveraging your strong verbal and written communication skills, you will develop engaging communications for internal audiences including messaging for leadership, communications campaigns and new channels. You'll take complex subject matter and distill this information into digestible content appropriate for various audiences inside the firm.
You will leverage a broad range of internal communications and project management skills, strategic thinking, flawless operational and tactical execution in order to establish a trusted advisor relationship with senior firm leaders and operate effectively within a fast-paced, often virtual, environment.
Your qualifications and skills
- Undergraduate degree, ideally in journalism, communications, public relations, or related field; master's degree preferred
- 10+ years of professional experience in a strategic internal communications role, preferably in a professional services environment or communications firm
- Proven track record creating effective, innovative communications channels and programs
- Experience with reputation management, situation management and/or issue-based communications required
- Outstanding organizational and project management skills; ability to execute with speed, high level of accuracy and efficiency, attention to detail, and follow-through
- Exceptional writing and editing skills, including the ability to write in different styles tailored to stakeholder, audience, and message
- Strong influencing and interpersonal skills, and a track record of working effectively and forming peer-level relationships with senior members of an organization
- Creative problem-solving skills with the ability to implement sound judgment
- Ability to thrive in dynamic situations by projecting confidence and authority to senior business leaders

For new joiners for this role in Canada and/or the United States, including all office locations where the job may be performed, a reasonable estimated range is $182,700 - $243,600 in USD and $198,800 - $265,000 in CAD - to help you understand what you can expect. This reflects our best estimate of the lowest to highest salary for this role at the time of this posting, ensuring you have a clear picture right from the start, though it's important to remember that actual salaries may vary. Factors like your office location, your unique blend of experience and skills, start date and our current organizational needs all play a part in determining the final figure. Certain roles are also eligible for bonuses, subject to McKinsey's discretion and based on factors such as individual and/or organizational performance.
