Working in an international environment, the Development Engineering Manager will collaborate with other engineering managers and organizations to develop our people, products, and processes for software development of medical systems for oncology.
Responsibilities:
- Development Manager for end-to-end product responsibility along assigned product lifecycle for the LSS OIS Solutions in Sunnyvale and Sunnyvale remote resources.
- Ensures that the engineering team delivers value to the customer; working software/system is the measure of progress.
- Instills continuous attention to technical excellence and good design and instills continuous improvement.
- Participates in Software Development Life Cycle Management and related Project Management.
- Participates in the technology roadmap aligned with the Product Management roadmap.
- Supports customer research collaborations for BL OIS solutions in conjunction with group research.
- Participates in concept exploration, pre-development, and application development for the BL OIS Solutions.
- Ensures the timely execution of the product roadmap according to the agreed business case.
- Ensures IP strategy is followed, and IP protection generated for key elements.
- Together with procurement, assesses potential supplier innovation collaborations and technical assessment of new proposed suppliers and/or moving up the BoM activities.
- Adheres to guidelines and principles defined by the Platform software group.
- Adheres to and improves Agile implementation and PLM processes.
- Manages inter-relations between research, applications development, product management & IB/Service.
- Connects closely with peer engineering management and with BL leads for alignment in global solution.
- Long term competence development and engineering excellence.
- Manages, mentors, and grows SW engineering teams, able to manage as well as performance manage those who need more help.
- Empowers engineering to make the right decisions.
- Leads the effective utilization of resources deployed across the organizational line.
- Line management responsibility for direct reports, including target setting, coaching, and performance management.
- Outlines, updates, and controls the organizational line expense budgets.
- Builds, hires, and trains strong team members.
- Adheres to all compliance, legal, and regulatory requirements in developing our new products with optimal quality and minimizing customer complaints due to product quality issues in newly developed products.
- Decides on collaborations with customers in conjunction with the group research organization.
- Decides together with IP on filing of patents.
- Ensures the right balance in competencies short, mid, and long-term keeping clinical workflow expertise improvement as a priority.
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Employees must be able to read, speak, write and comprehend the English language.
- Minimum of 10 years of software/infrastructure engineering experience, including a minimum of 5 years in a lead role or management position.
- BS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or other technical field. (Master’s degree or PhD degree level preferred)
- Solid understanding of Agile and scaled Agile.
- Ability to smoothly coordinate teams, engineering, senior management, and product management in a productive, efficient manner which minimizes conflict.
- Understanding of disciplined methods in the design, development, debugging, and testing of software programs.
- Understanding of quality system requirements and compliance.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Skills in team participation, quality orientation.
- Listening skills to support teams in problem identification and decision making.
- Substantial senior management experience from international engineering organizations, medical devices industry preferred.
- Demonstrated track record as a senior manager or engineering leader in the medical device industry.
- Proven experience with Agile Development and Product Lifecycle Management.
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
- Experience establishing benchmark metrics and driving decisions on prioritization based on limited available resources.
- Experience with managing the software delivery lifecycle of the team by following agile best practices while monitoring what works well and identifying areas for improvement.
- Experience with cloud-based systems such as Azure is preferred.
- Availability for international travel ~20%.

The US base salary range for this position is $185,000-195,000.
