Job Description
Skyworks is one of the most cutting-edge and impactful players helping people connect across the globe. Skyworks San Jose design center is seeking engineering talent with expertise in RF/microwave, RFIC design, and PA product development. When you join our team in San Jose, you'll join a uniquely collaborative, multi-discipline engineering community who support each other working across our domestic design centers creating cutting-edge products for global markets.
You will be part of a multi-discipline team developing PA, RF switches, front-end modules for the high volume and fast-paced cellular handset market. You will have opportunities to participate in all phases of product development, including product definition, architecture, system, transistor-level circuit design, MCM design, layout/layout supervision, lab debug, and production support.
Job Responsibilities
- You will have opportunities to participate in all phases of product development, including product definition, architecture, system budget, transistor-level circuit design, MCM design, layout/layout supervision, lab debug, and production support.
- Own and lead lab experiments to identify root cause of RF/Functionality related FEM performance issues.
- Work closely with a team of EM Design Engineers, Lab Technicians, Verification Engineers, Test Engineers, and Package Engineers to tackle complex cellular RF front-end issues.
- Prepare prototype build/assembly documentation such as Bill of Material (BOM), configuration matrices, etc. for prototype build.
- Implement lab tests and summarize/analyze lab results of RF Front-end module.
- Present lab results, root cause analysis to broader audience and drive for best possible performance of RF Front End Module.
Qualifications
- Solid understanding of RF concepts such as impedance matching, impedance transformation, distributed systems, passive RLC and resonant circuits, noise, linearity, bandwidth, and stability.
- Strong circuit simulation skills utilizing Agilent ADS/GoldenGate/spectreRF and 2.5/3D EM tools such as Momentum, Sonnet, or HFSS.
- Familiar with lab instruments including Network Analyzers, Spectrum Analyzers, Signal Generators, RF Probe Stations, Noise Figure Analyzers, and Load-pull Tuners.
- Strong lab skills in data collection/analysis, lab debug/tuning, and product troubleshooting.
- A self-starter and team player with strong desire to learn on the job. Strong desire and commitment to take product from concept to volume production.
- Good communication skills both verbal and written and logic reasoning skills, capable of breaking down complex problems, setting priorities, reporting progress, and executing to schedule.
- Minimum of a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering + 2 years experience or MSEE.
Preferred Qualifications
- Solid understanding of device and process technologies.
- Solid understanding in module building blocks, including Power Amplifiers, Low Noise Amplifiers, RF Switches and Couplers, Filters, and Multi-chip Module.
- Good understanding on acoustic filter such as SAW, BAW filters.
- Exposure to system architecture, circuit topology, and multi-technology circuit floorplan.
- Good understanding of RF systems and familiarity with wireless standards including 3GPP cellular 2/3/4/5G/LTE, WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth.
- Experience in FEM product development and customer interaction.
Job Requirements
- BS Degree and 12 years' experience required, or MSEE and 8 years' experience or Ph.D. 5 years.
- Familiar with amplifier modes of operation: Class A, AB, C, E, F, understanding of power amplifier design fundamentals.
- Familiar with RFIC design experience using CMOS/GaAs/SiGe HBT for PAs.
- Proficient in ADS and HFSS, and experience with design simulation tools or equivalent - APD, Cadence Virtuoso.
- Familiar with analog circuit design principles and basic EM theory.
- Lab experience to perform IC/MCM characterization and debugging.
- Team player and self-motivated to meet challenging product requirements and schedule.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.

The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is currently USD $126,500 - $241,700 per year. Starting base pay will depend on relevant experience and skills, training and education, business needs, market demands, the ultimate job duties and requirements, and work location. Skyworks has different base pay ranges for different work locations in the U.S. Benefits include access to healthcare benefits (including a premium-free medical plan option), a 401(k) plan and company match, an employee stock purchase plan, paid time off (including vacation, sick/wellness, parental leave), among others.
