The IT Engineer plays a critical role in designing and deploying CSBS IT infrastructure, systems, and applications. Key activities include asset management, account management, configuration management, content management, system design, maintenance, monitoring, troubleshooting, change control, end-user training and assistance, desktop support, and system documentation.
Essential Functions

- Participate in technical systems design and development, project planning, and administration activities.
- Interface and collaborate with Information Security team to validate and implement recommendations into production environment.
- Apply engineering principles and best practices to ensure system reliability, security, and scalability of IT systems.
- Independently perform Proof of Concept study by working with several vendors, deploying products in test environments, conducting analysis on benefits and suitability, and providing final recommendation to leadership. Ability to prepare reports and present to leadership.
- Serve as an IT business partner for internal departments on administrative or technical matters, as well as assigned projects.
- Deploy software applications to all clients using GPO and other mass deployment methodologies.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues with Windows Server, Active Directory, and Group Policy.
- Help investigate and troubleshoot escalated application issues that could not be resolved by Service Desk or Call Center analysts.
- Ensure IT solutions are documented, in line with the technical design specifications, and knowledge transfer is completed.
- Ensure appropriate level of documentation and communication occur with end users to ensure they can fully utilize provided services.
- Configure and tune monitoring of IT operations using automated monitoring tools and respond to alerts, with proper internal and vendor escalations, including after-hours.
- Periodic log and monitoring trends analysis.
- Perform system hardening techniques to secure client workstations, and or servers.
- Manage user entitlements, including account activation/deactivation, monitoring for account dormancy, etc. for all systems in the CSBS IT portfolio. This includes on premise systems and cloud services.
- Performing reporting along with periodic log and monitoring trends analysis. Implement and manage core AWS cloud environment services such as VPC, EC2, EBS, snapshots, security groups, elastic load balancers, etc.
Additional Responsibilities
- Support 24x7 infrastructure, including off-hours and weekend on-call responsibilities.
- Manage the configurations of applications, both on premise and cloud based (e.g., SharePoint, Office 365 user administration, Exchange Online, and Teams).
- Perform racking, cabling and configuration activities associated with the installation of new hardware.
- Collaborate with third-party vendors and consultants on developing system-specific skills.
Minimum Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual should possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed and meet the amount of education, training and/or work experience required.
Education and Experience
- Computer Science B.S. / B.A. degree or equivalent is desired.
- Minimum of four (4) years’ experience in an IT Engineering, Systems Architect, or equivalent role (project level support acceptable).
- Microsoft certification(s) preferred.
- Experience applying engineering concepts such as scope definition, developing requirements, systems architecture, evaluating interfaces, systems performance, security, database systems, data analysis, risk management, etc.
- Experience designing, implementing, and operating a broad array of technologies in competencies such as but not limited to software, networks, operating systems, programming languages, hardware, cloud computing, data storage, cyber security, identity and access management.
- Experience in SQL server installation and administration preferred.
- Prior IT Service Management experience following ITIL processes and utilizing tools such as ServiceNow is desired.
- Hands-on experience with engineering concepts such as scope definition, developing requirements, systems architecture, evaluating interfaces, systems performance, security, database systems, data analysis, technical risk management, etc.
- Hands-on experience with a broad array of technologies in competencies such as software, networks, operating systems, scripting, hardware, cloud computing, data storage, cyber security, identity and access management.
- Proven track record of successfully managing and deploying IT projects independently while delivering high quality results.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Must be dependable due to operational nature of work. Occasional, but infrequent off-hours work may be needed to respond to critical operational issues.
- Understanding of TCP/IP networking, DHCP, and DNS.
- Strong understanding of Windows Server 2022, Hyper-V, Active Directory, Group Policy, and related Microsoft solutions.
- Understanding of AWS, Azure, or other IaaS solutions preferred.
- PowerShell understanding and experience is preferred.
- Ability to work in a team environment is required.
- Effective working with matrix teams across organizational structure.

- Ability to work calmly during stressful circumstances.

- Ability to work in collaboration with a variety of stakeholders to identify and discuss issues.
