THE ROLE
The Director of Philanthropy will provide leadership to major gift fund-raising programs and initiatives. The director will directly hire and supervise team members responsible for the multi-faceted efforts to promote and enhance current giving, endowment and capital giving from individuals, corporations and foundations to benefit the Ministry.
The primary focus of the position is to secure major gifts of $25,000 or more and event initiatives that drive our revenue and donor prospects. The position will interact directly with hospital leadership on the development of giving opportunities and with all members of the Fund-Raising Team of the Foundation to develop the strategic fund-raising priorities and a pipeline of donor prospects. This will include the systematic approach to the identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors.
The director will be responsible to ensure that the agreed upon metrics for each component of the fund-raising program are met on an annual basis, including gifts and net letters of intent in support of priorities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provides leadership to design a fund-raising strategic plan that will enable the team to carry out the major and capital philanthropic initiatives as identified.
- Responsible for development and management of a portfolio of major gift prospects and personally soliciting gifts from these individuals as an outright gift or a pledge of $25,000 over 5 years.
- Provides leadership and supervision to events that will enable the Foundation to achieve the philanthropic goals identified by the Ministry.
- Provides leadership and supervision to the philanthropy manager, coordinator and administrative assistant for all activities around major, planned and events.
- Works with major gifts coordinators and Planned Giving team providing support for various philanthropic initiatives identified.
- Actively engages in the community in order to create awareness of the charitable mission of the ministry and its philanthropic goals.
- Prepares financial and analytical reports on fund raising results and trends as needed.
- Maintains professional contact with community organizations, other institutions, association and organizations that affect development programs in health care settings.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree in from an accredited university or college
- Master's Degree (preferred)
- Completion of fund-raising training programs (preferred)
- 8 years of experience in non-profit with major giving experience
- 5 years of leadership experience, preferably in a larger institution
- 3 years of senior level fund raising experience in a large complex organization with ability to demonstrate success in closing of six figure gifts
- 3 years of demonstrated experience in the design and implementation of a fund-raising strategic plan that met fund raising goals
- 3 years of experience with a fund-raising donor management software program.
- 3 years of experience in managing revenue and expense budget to meet program objectives
- 3 years of experience in the design of fund-raising strategic plans in concert with organizational leadership
- Verified experience in personally securing major gifts
- Demonstrated experience with prospect management and use of donor management systems that resulted in the development of a major gift prospect pipeline
- Experience with Health Care Philanthropy (preferred)
- Experience with Raiser’s Edge Donor Management system (preferred)
- Advanced interpersonal skills
- Analytical, organizational, and prioritization skills
- Excellent skills in communicating persuasively, both orally and in writing
- Ability to demonstrate a track record of success in securing major gifts
- Computer literacy in Windows applications
- Demonstrated knowledge of prospect management and use of donor management systems that resulted in the development of a major gift prospect pipeline.
