Director of Faith Formation-Elementary (St. Clare/St. Thomas Aquinas Parishes)
Position Title: Director/Coordinator of Faith Formation
Job Summary:
Provides leadership and administration in the design and implementation of faith formation programs for youth and young adults to assist in building a solid foundation for formation, spirituality, Christian living, and ministry. Manages sacrament preparation and works with pastor for sacramental liturgies.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
K: Knowledge
- Eligible for Advanced Religious Education Certification with the Archdiocese of Milwaukee.
- Active Catholic able to participate in the sacramental life of the Church.
- BA in Theology/Religious Education or an educational field and/or a certificate in ministry or theology from a Catholic institution of higher learning required for a director; preferred for a coordinator.
- Two years’ or more experience in a parish or Catholic school setting as a teacher/administrator/catechist required.
- Education or experience in training, delegation, empowering and supervision preferred.
- Working knowledge in MS Office products.
- Valid driver’s license for the State of Wisconsin preferred.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Administrative Responsibilities
- Researches the religious education needs and preferences of the people of the parish and designs and implements catechetical programs to meet those needs.
- Collaborates with the pastor, other staff members, colleagues from other parishes, and the ecumenical community to develop a coordinated approach toward total parish religious education.
- Recruits, screens, and trains catechists and aides.
- Ensures catechists are certified according to the Archdiocese of Milwaukee guidelines.
- Prepares and monitors the annual faith formation budget.
- Orders and maintains inventory of faith formation materials and supplies.
- Attends staff meetings and other meetings at the request of the Pastor/Parish Administrator.
- Acts as a resource for Parish leadership.
- Ensures accurate records are kept of catechists, children, families, etc.
- Networks with community agencies that serve the needs of youth.
- Formally evaluates the catechetical programs.
Faith Formation:
- Collaborates with the Pastor/Priest to manifest the vision for catechetical and sacramental life of the parish.
- Selects appropriate catechetical materials based on Archdiocesan guidelines.
- Fosters parishioner participation in faith formation, evangelization, and stewardship.
- Provides opportunities for parents to exercise their role as primary catechists by taking an active part in the religious education of their children.
- Responsible for the registration process of program participants and maintains accurate records in a timely manner.
- Provides continued support for new and existing catechists by being present before, during, and after classes.
Programs for Preschool and Elementary:
- Directs faith formation program for children in preschool through 8th grade.
- First Reconciliation and First Eucharist.
- Plans and coordinates special events (e.g., bible camps, special programs, etc.).
- Assists with recruiting youth as servers.
- Effectively manages student behavior and works with parents.
- Communications:
- Communicates with parishioners, parents, parish and school staff, and catechist/aides regarding faith formation to foster positive public relations.
- Schedules events and respective calendars.
- Creates a dynamic image through parish communication vehicles.
- Creates media releases and develops social media programs that engage and encourage involvement.
- Involves themselves with cluster, Deanery, and Archdiocesan networks of professional peers.
- Visibly engaged at principal parish events.
ADA Physical Requirements:
- The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, and hear.
- The employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods; use hands; reach with hands and arms.
- Close vision required for paperwork and computer.
- Able to utilize computer keyboard, monitor, and telephone.
- Ability to lift 20 pounds.
- This role functions in an office environment and uses standard office equipment.
