Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago seeks a proven major gifts fundraiser to significantly contribute to the vitality and growth of Catholic Charities in Lake County. Successful candidates will have demonstrated success in donor cultivation and stewardship, cross-functional collaboration and closing 6-figure gifts.
The Director - Major Giving is a key player within the Major Gifts team, responsible for seeking out opportunities to engage and solicit major gifts, beginning at the $10,000 level. Reporting to the Vice President for Institutional Advancement, the Director will be responsible for a portfolio of 85 to 100 donors, and will cultivate and solicit potential prospects, donors and lapsed donors. The Director will be a visible presence at advancement department special events, such as donor cultivation events and fundraisers. This role has a hybrid schedule, recognizing that donor cultivation frequently takes place outside the office and that some events take place during evenings/ weekends.
Essential Functions of the position are detailed below:
- Maintain a personal portfolio of major gift prospects (defined as those giving a gift of $10,000+ in support of Catholic Charities), as well as those donors and prospects that have the capacity to give at the major level or higher.
- Serve as the primary relationship manager for a portfolio of prospects, developing and implementing a written donor strategy and relationship record (using Raisers Edge) of all interactions.
- Communicate with portfolio through face to face cultivation, solicitation and stewardship meetings, and written strategies; ensure that each major donor and prospect has a clear strategy and timeline for cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
- Develop solicitation strategies for donors / prospects in support of the organization's annual fund, planned giving, and growth campaigns; ensure strategies are compatible and maximize opportunities with other existing campaigns and appeals.
- Support the fundraising efforts of the Chief Development Officer and Chief Executive Director in securing new and renewed gifts.
- With the VP of Principal Giving, create and manage organizational budget; track and report on progress to goal to CEO, including contracts, gifts, and pledges.
- Work with the Director of Advancement Operations to screen and prepare profiles of current and prospective donors; establish and refine benchmarks for department research processes as needed.
- Ensure proper donor recognition in all publications and oversee accurate donor lists for those publications.
- Manage the design and implementation of donor recognition.
- Work with the Communications, Stewardship Manager and Special Events Director to strategize and help execute cultivation events for major donors and prospects.
- Be a visible presence at development department special events, such as major donor cultivation events and fundraisers.
- Project manage annual appeals ensuring deadlines and fundraising goals are met for Major Gifts.

- Relevant Experience:
Preferred: 5-7 Years
Five years of direct or equivalent experience managing high level donor relationships with demonstrated success in closing gifts of $5,000 and above.
- Minimum: 3-5 Years
Three years of direct or equivalent experience managing high level donor relationships with demonstrated success in closing gifts of $5,000 and above.
