Job Overview:
A prominent law firm based in Washington, DC, is seeking an experienced Environmental Law Partner to join its widely recognized Environmental practice group. This group excels in offering expert legal advice across a variety of industries, addressing environmental challenges related to real estate, corporate transactions, regulatory compliance, and industrial developments. The position involves providing high-level counsel on complex legal matters, negotiating contracts, and working closely with environmental consultants, government agencies, and internal partners. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of environmental law, proven leadership skills, and a strong ability to manage high-stakes transactions and compliance matters.
Duties:
- Advise clients on environmental aspects of complex transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, and corporate restructurings.
- Draft and negotiate contractual provisions related to environmental concerns, such as representations, warranties, and indemnities.
- Provide strategic advice on regulatory compliance and environmental permitting.
- Conduct environmental due diligence for various business transactions.
- Counsel clients on pre- and post-closing environmental compliance.
- Collaborate with internal partners, external consultants, and government agencies to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
- Produce high-quality legal work, maintaining clear and effective communication with clients and team members.
- Stay updated on developments in environmental law and participate in continuous professional development.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in environmental law, particularly in real estate and corporate transactions.
- Strong background in counseling clients on environmental matters across various industries, such as manufacturing, real estate, and renewable energy.
- Demonstrated success in managing complex environmental legal issues.
- Ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal, analytical, and communication skills.
Education:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited institution.
Certifications:
- Licensed attorney in good standing in Washington, DC, or eligible to waive into the jurisdiction.
- Additional licenses in Michigan or Illinois are a plus.
Skills:
- Expertise in environmental law, including regulatory compliance, environmental permitting, and due diligence.
- Strong negotiation skills and experience drafting legal documents related to environmental transactions.
