Position Summary

Required Qualifications
- M.D. or D.O. degree required;
- Valid licensed physician with the State of California required;
- Board-eligible or board-certified Psychiatrist;
- Professional experience of 3 years;
- Experience in community field work desirable;
- OR an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job;
- Controlled Substances Registration Certificate;
- Current First Aid and CPR Certification;
- Knowledge of general medicine and psychiatry, current developments in the field of psychiatry, hospital and clinic organization, management, and procedures;
- Knowledge of drugs and their indications, contraindications, dosing, side effects, and proper administration;
- Knowledge of community resources;
- Ability to skillfully diagnose and treat severely and persistently mentally ill patients;
- Ability to analyze situations and adopt an effective course of action;
- Ability to prepare records and reports;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others;
- Ability to maintain objectivity and confidentiality;
- Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis;
- Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.) in its most difficult phases;
- Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables;
- Good oral and written communication skills;
- Good computer skills, including MS Office, preferred;
- Must have and maintain a valid California Driver's License with an insurable driving record;
- Must successfully complete the onboarding and credentialing process;
- Adherence to infection control procedures, including but not limited to, standard precautions of temperature monitoring, hand washing, symptom self-monitoring, masking and social distancing;
- Assist and support the Center/Department/Program to meet standards of High Reliability.
Essential Responsibilities
- Provide and manage direct patient care in the THRIVE Program promptly and efficiently in accordance with standard of care;
- Treat a variety of psychiatric disease processes and injuries; acute and chronic;
- Competently perform rapid patient assessment, emergency intervention and stabilization;
- Perform histories and physicals, including psycho-social issues, order appropriate diagnostic tests and treatments and analyze patient data to formulate diagnoses adhering to evidence-based medicine;
- Prescribe medications, regulated medical devices and treatment modalities as appropriate to the patient’s assessed medical condition;
- Provide education to patients and families regarding preventive health care, disease processes, potential medication side effects, nutrition, etc;
- Consult and refer patients to other healthcare professionals, facilities as appropriate to provide an interdisciplinary approach to patient needs;
- May inoculate and vaccinate patients to immunize patients from communicable diseases;
- Report communicable diseases to the appropriate local, state, and federal health agencies;
- Complete EHR patient charting, billing and PAQ & Inbox items accordance with WellSpace Health policies and procedures;
- Ensure quality metrics are in progress and documented appropriately in EHR in accordance with WSH Quality initiatives;
- Maintain productivity at the appropriate level in accordance with WSH budgetary guidelines;
- Serve as a member of the organized medical staff, attend medical staff meetings and committee meetings as requested; adhere to the medical staff policies, rules and regulations;
- Participate in developing and implementing educational programs for the WellSpace Health staff and the community;
- Understand and remain in compliance with the WellSpace Health’s policies and procedures for safety, infection prevention and control, hazardous materials, waste, etc;
- Be available for consultation for THRIVE Center staff;
- Perform all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors;
- Support and maintain a culture of safety, quality and respect for patients, their families, and coworkers;
- Participate in various research studies in area of expertise;
- Communicate appropriately and clearly with the Health Center Manager, Director, Medical Assistants and all members of care team;
- Treat coworkers, patients and their families with respect and dignity and support the maintenance of Just Culture;
- Maintain a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments;
- Demonstrate an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations;
- Document in EHR in accordance with current standards and policies;
- Competently use correct CMA coding for patient evaluations, management, procedures, and diagnosis;
- Stay current with new developments in medicine through continuing education, conferences, and affiliations with professional societies;
- Participate in Peer Review process in accordance with WSH Peer Review policy;
- Deliver excellent customer service and patient care with cultural humility;
- Communicate the mission, ethics, and goals of the facility;
- Participate in the department’s performance improvement program;
- Comply with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices;
- Represent the organization in a positive and professional manner at all times, whether on or off duty;
- Ensure confidentiality of patients’ records following HIPAA guidelines;
- Attend annual review and performs departmental in-services;
- Resolve staff concerns at the departmental level, utilizing the grievance process as required;
- Must wear identification while on duty;
- Maintain regulatory requirements, including all federal, state, local regulations and accrediting organization standards;
- Meet dress code standards; appearance is neat, clean and professional;
- Other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
The work environment is characteristic of a medical clinic environment. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands and arms to reach. The employee is also required to stand; walk; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must also possess hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the phone. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
The employee may be in contact with individuals and families in crisis who may be ill, using substances and/or not attentive to personal health and safety for themselves or their homes. The employee may experience a number of unpleasant sensory demands associated with the client’s use of alcohol and drugs, and the lack of personal care. The employee may also be exposed to bodily fluids (blood, urine) and hazardous chemicals.
