Position Description
The University of California, Davis, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is recruiting for a Health Sciences Assistant, Associate, or Full Clinical Professor to serve as Chief/Medical Director and teaching attending physician in its Addiction Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic with a culturally diverse patient population. The applicant will provide clinical leadership in addictions treatment in the outpatient clinic staffed by multidisciplinary clinicians and trainees and serve as an expert resource for the UC Davis Health system. They will facilitate coordination of addiction treatment and education provided by other departments and associated programs, such as Emergency Medicine/Toxicology, Family Medicine, and the Veterans Affairs. The applicant(s) will also be supervising general psychiatry and combined residents in IM/Psych FM/Psych residents with their addiction cases. The applicant will help oversee and provide pre-clinical and clinical medical student education, psychiatry resident education in addiction psychiatry and, in coordination with the director of that program, Addiction Medicine fellow education. Experience with outpatient clinic administration, program development and the full range of addictions treatment modalities is highly desired. Time is allocated for administration, didactic teaching, case conferences, and supervision. In addition, the applicant will engage in scholarly or creative activities derived from and in support of their clinical teaching, professional and service activities. The candidates will also evaluate and treat their own patients.
The incumbent will provide teaching and supervision of medical students, residents, and fellows, participate in appropriate professional societies and educational organizations, and provide service to department and school committees. This individual should also have ability to foster collegiality and work collaboratively in a diverse environment and adhere to University policies and procedures.
The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences has approximately 65 residents in six residency training programs and 90 faculty and staff psychiatrists and psychologists at the UC Davis Medical Center and the Northern California VA Health System. Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
- MD
- Board certification in general psychiatry (or board eligible)
- Either board certification in addiction psychiatry or addiction medicine (or board eligible)
- California Medical license (or eligibility for licensure in the State of California)
Preferred qualifications (other preferred, but not required, qualifications for the position)
- Teaching and supervisory experience of residents, fellows, and medical students is preferred, as well as experience supervising adult psychiatry residents/fellows, general psychiatry residents, and medical students.
