We are looking for a Senior Process Engineer with expertise in materials science to join our Operations team at LightForce Orthodontics. You will be part of a growing team and find that your day-to-day tasks actively contribute to our company's success. The Senior Process Engineer will be responsible for leading the development, optimization, and scaling of material production processes. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of materials science, process engineering, and manufacturing technologies, and will be responsible for driving innovation in material selection, synthesis, and processing.
As a senior member of the engineering team, your expertise and guidance will be an important driver for the success of the team. The strategic roadmap for project execution will be driven by your input and decision making.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Materials Process Design: Lead the design, development, and optimization of processes for the synthesis, formulation, and processing of advanced materials, ensuring scalability and cost-effectiveness.
- Materials Innovation: Collaborate with research and development teams to develop and transition novel materials from the lab to full-scale production, ensuring process feasibility and performance.
- Material Characterization: Utilize advanced analytical techniques to characterize material properties and behavior, ensuring consistent performance and quality across production batches.
- Process Optimization: Implement process improvement methodologies to enhance material processing efficiency, reduce waste, and improve product quality.
- Process Automation: Identify opportunities for process automation and digitalization in material production to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention.
- Project Leadership: Lead projects related to the development and scaling of new materials, ensuring alignment with business goals, timelines, and budget constraints.
- Data Analysis: Utilize data-driven approaches to analyze process performance, identify trends, and develop actionable insights. Implement statistical and computational tools to support process improvements and decision-making.
- Collaboration and Mentorship: Work closely with R&D, production, and quality teams to ensure seamless integration of new processes and materials.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that all processes and materials comply with industry standards, regulations, and safety protocols. Stay updated on relevant regulations and best practices to maintain compliance.
Education and Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in process engineering with a focus on materials science.
- Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
Required Qualifications
- Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of materials science, including properties, behavior, and processing techniques. Proficiency in process modeling, simulation, and optimization tools.
- Analytical Abilities: Exceptional problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze complex data and develop effective solutions. Experience with statistical analysis and data-driven decision-making.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and convey complex material science concepts to diverse audiences.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with industry regulations, quality standards, and safety protocols relevant to materials processing and manufacturing.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with ISO 13485, ISO 9001, and/or medical device regulation is a plus.
- Experience in project management methodologies is a plus.
- Experience working in a startup environment is a plus.
- Experience with additive manufacturing is a plus.
- Experience with QuickSight, Jira, and/or GitHub is a plus.
Physical Demands
- Requires the ability to use hands, and reach with hands and arms.
- Requires the ability to see, listen, and speak.
- Requires work activities with production chemicals, adhesives, and epoxies, using required personal protective equipment.
- Requires walking and standing for long periods of time.
