Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree
- Experience developing strategies that influence leadership decisions at the organizational level
- Experience managing programs across cross functional teams, building processes and coordinating release schedules
- 8+ years of business-world experience spanning the breadth of digital health, drugs, diagnostics, devices and life science tools
- Significant depth of medical, scientific, and technical knowledge
- Exited founder/CxO/operator of at least one healthcare and/or life science venture that offered enterprise software, technology-enabled services, hardware-based products or developed novel therapeutic or diagnostic products involving computing or data science

The AWS Startup Business Development team is comprised of exited founders, operators, and industry experts who champion and work alongside the world’s highest-potential startups from conception to exit. We do what is in our power to accelerate their engineering and commercial efforts though people, technology, knowledge, programs, and relationships within and outside Amazon. We are looking for an experienced and motivated candidate to work with the most promising HCLS startups as well as develop and manage relationships with Venture Capital firms investing in HCLS.
As a HCLS Business Development Manager within AWS, you will have an exciting opportunity to help shape and deliver on the strategy to build mindshare and broaden the use of Amazon’s cloud computing platform with HCLS startups. This role will use data to identify set forth and execute a strategy to engage and influence companies ranging from health-tech, to biotech and med-tech. The ideal candidate will be adept at building and activating communities and rich networks across GEOs and around specialty interests.
In addition to founder/operating experience this individual should have experience raising venture capital financing or have served as an early-stage (seed, Series A, Series B) VC investor. This individual must have significant medical, scientific, and technical depth (e.g. holding an MD, PhD or both) and be able to earn the trust of managing directors at key venture funds as well as the founders/CxOs of their portfolio companies.
Fluency in cloud computing is strongly preferred as is a keen sense of ownership, scrappiness, drive and a track record of executing in the face of ambiguity, shifting priorities, and limited resources.
Finally, the role requires a self-motivated and strategic thinker that can simultaneously operate across multiple dimensions to advance the technical, strategic, and commercial efforts of our customers. Each day involves a blend of working with the highest potential HCLS startups and founders, investors, and industry focused colleagues across the organization. Time is spent diving deep with individual customers often in collaboration with account teams, as well as developing and executing scale programs.
Key job responsibilities:
- Working with the founders/leaders of venture-backed startups in healthcare and life sciences to 1) identify their technical and commercial challenges/opportunities ahead 2) map those needs onto people, technology, knowledge, programs, relationships across Amazon that could potentially help and 3) mobilize those assets to work on behalf of these startup customers.
- Developing and holding relationships with key venture funds and investors in healthcare and life sciences. Activities include putting Amazon assets to work on behalf of their portfolio companies, driving customer and partner relationships for the portfolio, jointly producing thought leadership and educational events for the portfolio and/or broader startup ecosystem.
- Discovering, capturing and reporting back learnings from the field about customer and AWS challenges and opportunities as they relate to healthcare and life sciences.
- Informing, influencing and contributing to the work of other HCLS colleagues across AWS and Amazon including sales, marketing, business development, compliance, security, and product teams in North America and globally. Contribute to the development of our industry strategy.
- Collaborating with generalist colleagues across the global Startup Business Development team to better serve the needs of HCLS customers at all stages of startup life from conception to exit in all geographies of the world.
- Conceiving, authoring, securing support for, launching and executing new initiatives and programs to meet the needs of HCLS startup customers.

Additional Qualifications:
- MD or equivalent medical/technical degree strongly preferred
- Quantitative background and skills
- Proven ability to build trust and manage relationships with the C-level leadership/managing directors of strategically important organizations
- Proven ability to execute as an individual contributor in the face of ambiguity, shifting priorities, and limited resources
- Experience working effectively and cross-functionally within a large organization

- Knowledge of cloud computing concepts including compute, storage, networking, databases, machine learning, and IoT; Ability to go deep enough on technical aspects to differentiate among various AWS services
- Established relationships with regional industry community

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $133,200/year in our lowest geographic market up to $220,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
