Project Kuiper is an initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of 3,236 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). Its mission is to bring fast, affordable broadband to unserved and underserved communities around the world. Project Kuiper will help close the digital divide by delivering fast, affordable broadband to a wide range of customers, including consumers, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in places without reliable connectivity.
This key role will be focused on increasing Kuiper Satellite production rate through continuous improvement strategies. In this role, you will manage a cross-functional team that will drive improvements in a variety of areas such as manufacturing, testing, and fulfillment processes. To deliver these complex solutions, you will partner with peers across all Kuiper teams, including hardware, software, manufacturing, quality, launch, and test. Candidate superpowers should include hiring and developing the best, earning trust, ownership, insisting on high standards, continuous improvement, stakeholder management, innovation, and simplification. The role is based in Redmond, WA.
Key job responsibilities
The Manager for ProdOps Continuous Improvement role is key to Kuiper's ability to increase satellite production rate. This role requires a strategic thinker with excellent leadership skills that will lead a team to enhance operational efficiency and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
A successful candidate should have proven experience leading a highly impactful continuous improvement program in a production or operational setting (ideally transitioning from startup to steady state). You have previously hired and managed a cross-functional team of high performers.
Your proven track record of managing projects and leading rapid investigation initiatives will be key to your success in this role. Your experience managing cross-functional initiatives will help you create efficient mechanisms allowing many engineering and operational teams to improve Kuiper satellite production systems.

This role will be highly collaborative, requiring partnerships with cross-functional leaders to drive positive results. This role requires the ability to advocate on behalf of our customers (internal and external) and an ability to push back without being adversarial.

About the team
The Operations Command Center (OCC) team is the Kuiper Production Operations Integrated program management function that enables successful production scaling. The vision of OCC team is to enable success of end-to-end Kuiper operations team by proactively developing systems, processes, mechanisms, and tools that are required to detect issues, expose root cause, validate improvements, maintain controls, and drive operational rhythms.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 6+ years of technical hardware development or program management experience
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science or equivalent
- 3+ years leading continuous improvement initiatives, managing operations, or a related role within the manufacturing, fulfillment or testing organization driving automation, LEAN/Six Sigma, 5S initiatives.
- 3+ years managing a technical team
- Experience managing programs across cross-functional teams, building processes and data collection mechanisms
- Excellent analytical and interpersonal skills, with ability to work successfully across all engineering disciplines.
- High sense of ownership, urgency, and drive.
- Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical individuals.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Masters degree in engineering (aerospace, aviation, computer science, electrical, electronics, industrial) or business administration.
- Experience working in the aerospace or aviation industry
- Experience in setting up or launching new industrial processes (start-up)
- Knowledge of enterprise resource planning (ERP) and manufacturing execution system (MES) software.
- Lean/Six Sigma certification
- Experience owning cross-functional program strategy, end-to-end delivery, and communicating results to senior leadership (up to VP level)

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $135,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $234,900/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
