Director of Financial Aid
In this position, you will provide leadership and strategic direction for the Financial Aid Office. This leadership will help promote student success by providing financial resources, knowledge, skills, strategies, and connections with other campus service partners. Service areas in the Financial Aid Office include but are not limited to: Title IV student aid programs, BYU administered scholarships, off-campus scholarships, as well as the technology to support the various programs.
What you'll do in this position:
Strategic, Planning and Leadership
- Create and ensure alignment of short-term and long-term office goals and objectives with university and division mission and strategic objectives.
- Provide strategic insight on federal, state, and institutional aid programs, ensuring compliance with regulations and enhancing access for students.
- Monitor and interpret changes in federal financial aid regulations and adjust office operations and procedures accordingly.
- Ensure equitable access to financial aid and promote strategies to reduce and eliminate gaps.
- Serve as a contributing member of the Enrollment Services Executive Council which discusses strategy and alignment issues.
- Develop annual budget that supports operational needs and strategic initiatives.
- Provide data-driven insights to university leadership to support strategic planning and resource allocation.
- Provide strategic input and develop recommendations for the implementation of related technology applications in support of enhanced services for students and staff relating to Title IV student aid and scholarships.
- Provide change management leadership for new products, processes, and system deployments.
- Coordinate with other CES schools on shared initiatives and best practices.
Operations Management
- Oversee the administration of all financial aid programs including Pell Grants, Direct Loans, institutional aid and private awards.
- Ensure accurate packaging and disbursement of aid to eligible students, monitoring fund allocations and reconciliation.
- Supervise the day-to-day operations of the financial aid office, ensuring high levels of service, efficiency, and student satisfaction.
- Sponsor financial aid workshops and information sessions for prospective students, current students, families, and university staff.
- Address personnel issues as necessary.
Team Leadership and Development
- Develop a healthy office culture that encourages inter- and intra-office collaboration.
- Support professional development for employees.
- Ensure adequate coaching, development, and resources are available to ensure employee success.
Policy and Compliance
- Communicate and interpret institutional and governmental policies to members of the university community.
- Develop and recommend university policies and procedures related to the Financial Aid Office.
- Ensure Title IV awarding is in full compliance with applicable laws, policies, and regulations.
- Provide institutional oversight for Title IV student aid programs.
- Provide institutional oversight for scholarships.
What qualifies you for this role:
Education/Experience
Minimum education/experience required:
Bachelor's degree, with at least 5 years of experience in financial aid within higher education administration or combination of experience and education.
Preferred:
Master's degree or higher with at least 7 years of experience in financial aid within higher education or combination of experience and education.
