Job Title: Director, Office of Communications & Marketing
The Director, Office of Communications & Marketing for the UCSF School of Nursing will lead a comprehensive communications and marketing strategy to advance the school’s aims, while building brand awareness and increasing the organization’s visibility. Working closely with senior leadership, the individual will be responsible for developing effective messaging and communications plans on complex issues, from new academic programs to change management initiatives, that reach both internal and external audiences.
The ideal candidate is adept at multi-channel strategic communications and marketing across print and digital platforms including executive communications, speech writing, e-newsletters, marketing collateral, websites, social media, video, annual reports and donor reports, inclusive of both internal and external audiences.
The director is a member of a three-person School of Nursing Office of Communications and Marketing (with plans for future expansion) and will oversee a team in developing compelling, informative content that promotes the school, elevates its impact and celebrates its people. The director will be responsible for achieving these broadly stated goals and aims through overseeing the work of two team members with additional support expected.
The office collaborates with units and departments across the school, and works closely with faculty, staff, learners and other stakeholders, including the UCSF Office of Communications. The ideal candidate is a seasoned professional with political acumen and sound judgment. They possess strong interpersonal skills and have a proven track record of building productive relationships with a variety of stakeholders to achieve goals.
Salary Information:
The salary range for this position is $105,900 - $225,900 (Annual Rate).
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in related area and minimum six years of experience including five in a supervisory/lead role or equivalent experience / training.
- Strong knowledge of all aspects of communications, including strategic planning for various media venues, technical aspects and requirements of various venues, and the most appropriate and effective applications for both internal and external communications.
- Broad knowledge and understanding of technical applications to effectively manage / supervise professional technical staff, including design concepts, various media and mediums, applications, etc.
- Strong knowledge of the location, its achievements, mission, vision, goals, policies, practices and infrastructure, and a strong knowledge of current affairs, issues in higher education and / or health sciences, and / or specialized subject matter.
- Strong knowledge of financial and personnel management, including understanding of management techniques, guiding principles, relevant laws, policies and best practices.
- Solid management skills to select, train, evaluate, lead, direct, guide and motivate subordinate staff to produce high quality work; skill to take corrective action as required.
- Solid skills to create, develop and implement comprehensive long and short term strategic communications plans for a variety of audiences.
- Solid knowledge and skills to advise and consult with management to ensure delivery of the desired message to the target and / or broad general audiences.
- Solid written, verbal, interpersonal communications, active listening and political acumen skills.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, project management and problem recognition, avoidance and resolution skills.
- Strong skills to ensure production of high quality work within budget and time constraints.
