Clinical Director
Location: Springfield, OH, 45505
Primary Responsibilities:
- Supervises, either directly or indirectly, all clinical staff and functions.
- Plans, coordinates, and maintains an organized, structured, daily operation to provide clinical alcohol and other drug treatment to clients in specific programs.
- Administers client flow, scheduling, activities, financial and other aspects of the program.
- Coordinates daily operations, behavioral management of client and family and management of specific program goals according to agency policy.
- Ensures timeliness and accuracy of required reports/projects.
Responsibilities:
- Supervises all clinical staff, and documents skill assessment and training according to policy.
- Actively plans and develops treatment programs.
- Assesses and counsels clients as needed, as backup in all agency programs. May carry a caseload.
- Monitors, assesses and evaluates staff feedback and makes adjustments to daily operations as needed.
- Utilizes resources effectively to achieve program and agency goals.
- Develops and maintains ongoing clinical training curriculum and orientation program documenting skills learned.
- Assesses and documents the clinical competence of clinical staff, reporting to Performance Improvement, Staff Development, and CEO as necessary.
- Writes grants or internal proposals for service and/or resource generation.
- Recommends sources of funding to maintain or expand services.
- Establishes and executes systems of monitoring and evaluating operations according to policy and budget.
- Assures staff meet productivity requirements.
- Analyzes quantitative data for monitoring and evaluation, cost-benefit study, or other performance improvement purposes.
- Writes, reviews, revises, disseminates and implements agency clinical policies and assures all reporting staff follow these policies and procedures.
- Screens applicants and recommends potential candidates for positions in specific programs. Obtains approval from CEO prior to hiring.
- Consistently supervises paid staff, interns, practicum students, and monitors and evaluates skills and performance in a timely manner.
- Orients and trains new supervisees in all areas relevant to their position including safety, confidentiality, and particular program standards.
- Trains and develops staff and delegates appropriately.
- Coordinates the work schedules of direct care staff either directly or with the assistance of department coordinators.
- Assures all directly reporting staff are timely in their record-keeping.
- Trains staff to follow CARF and OMHAS standards.
- Conducts regular team/staff meetings and documents appropriately.
- Interacts with clinical staff in case consultation and participates in case presentation as part of a team.
- Communicates any procedural changes in a timely manner to appropriate staff.
- Coaches staff in proper use of agency computer system.
- Manages client care crises on-site or by phone and trains staff on how to handle these issues effectively.
- Works closely with program coordinators and CEO to maintain a seamless continuum of care.
- Implements recommendations of the Safety Officer.
- Complies with Agency, State, accrediting body and funding source requirements and documents compliance.
- Maintains safe facilities.
- Facilitates teamwork in operations.
- Performs public relations functions including participation in speaking engagements and community events.
- Maintains good relationship with referral sources.
- Adheres to standards of professional appearance, conduct and ethical behavior.
- Participates in and/or chairs agency committees as assigned.
- Participates in Administrative Team and Performance Improvement meetings.
- Attends Board Meetings when requested by CEO.
- Writes policies and procedures as requested by the CEO.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the CEO.
- Informs CEO of important developments in treatment services.
- Reports to and assists CEO in developing a comprehensive, coordinated operation.
- Delegates duties as appropriate.
Specific to Clinical Director:
- Signs off on all agency discharges, assuring consistency of discharge standards and signs off on treatment plans and other documents as necessary.
- Provides back-up for the Chief Executive Officer.
- Participates on Program Planning and Facilities Committee of the Board of Directors as requested by the Chief Executive Officer.
- Chairs Peer Chart Review Committee, Program Design Committee and Staff Development Committee.
- Makes admit, discharge, and continued stay decisions according to accepted agency criteria.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
- LPCC, LISW, or Psychology License.
- Supervisory experience with knowledge of responsibilities regarding personnel.
- Experience working as part of an organization's leadership.
- CARF facility experience preferred.
- Qualified by OMHAS and law to provide IOP, assessment, individual counseling, group counseling, crisis intervention, alcohol and drug education, supervision of staff’s respective components, and to sign diagnoses.
- Minimum five years of experience in chemical dependency field and two years of administrative/supervisory experience in a social services setting.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Necessary:
- Computer skills including: typing skills and spreadsheet experience.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw complex conclusions.
- Ability to work as a member of a team with excellent communication and listening skills.
- Ability to accomplish multiple projects on time, while managing unexpected events.
- Ability to provide crisis intervention as needed.
- Capable of using crisis de-escalation skills to work with manipulative and demanding clients.
- Demonstration of cultural competency.
- Knowledge of legal aspects of hiring, termination, and supervision.
- Meet requirements of managed care contractors for service delivery and clinical supervision.
- Knowledge of Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services (OMHAS) standards.
- Knowledge of special needs of minority populations.
- Gender-specific treatment knowledge as appropriate to program.
- Computer Literacy.
- Mobility among various job sites.
- Good driving record and insurable with agency insurance without an increase in premium.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends.
- 24 hours on call backup coverage for emergencies.

- Negative TB test and urine drug screen.
