Position Description (Middle Market - Executive Underwriter)
- Underwrite new and renewal business in accordance with underwriting guidelines and business strategy.
- Negotiate price, terms, and conditions within delegated underwriting authority.
- Mentor lesser experienced Underwriting colleagues and assist and/or lead training sessions for teammates, as necessary.
- Manage majority of key accounts (> $600K) within assigned territory including broker negotiations and service engagements with Claims and Engineering colleagues.
- Cultivate meaningful relationships and strategies with key brokers in concert with Distribution colleagues.
- Assist CUO and local leadership with annual Business Reviews (audit cross region underwriting files, etc.).
Technical Skills
- Risk Assessment and Management: Demonstrate ability to effectively assess exposures and risk inherent to a given class of business; reconcile a prospect or insured’s unique exposures within the class to determine acceptability.
- Portfolio Management: Effectively analyze trends and scenarios for a given portfolio and make necessary adjustments to ensure stability and profitability.
- Pricing: Analyze account and portfolio performance against benchmark pricing (technical price) to ensure our business is adequately priced relative to risk, legal environment, social inflation, etc.
- Distribution Management: Stay abreast of changes within broker community both locally and nationally; continually articulate and reinforce our business strategy to achieve alignment with individuals and offices to maximize our results, i.e., achieve profitable growth.

- Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze complex data from multiple sources and reconcile details (opportunities or challenges) in a way that ensures good solutions for customers in alignment with our underwriting and pricing discipline.
- Communication Skills: Ability to effectively express ideas and messages in a clear fashion, both written and verbally. Negotiate with others in a professional and constructive fashion.
- IT Skills: Ability to effectively utilize and understand available tools such as Microsoft 365, Microsoft Teams, Excel and intercompany Underwriting platforms.
- Influence Skills: Ability to influence, motivate and persuade others to act and effectively collaborate to deliver on commitments to our customers.
