Position Overview
Reporting to the New England North Division President, the General Manager will lead and grow all aspects of the Ready-mix concrete business. This includes managing the company in all aspects of safety, production, operations, sales, quality control and other support functions with primary responsibility for developing and ensuring effective execution of company performance and growth strategy. Competency requirements include business acumen, customer focus, developing direct reports, drive for results, strategic agility and building effective teams. The preferred candidate can lead and motivate within a safe team environment. Classification: Monthly Salaried. Location: Manchester, NH.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
- Promote a safe working culture for all employees; work with safety and field personnel to minimize risk and increase safety for employees at all times.
- Ensure that all crews have the proper tools and training to operate safely and that all federal, state and local laws concerning safety, environment and other applicable areas are adhered to.
- Oversight and responsibility for daily operations including safe production, dispatch & delivery, quality control, and strong customer service.
- Drive operational and safety performance through continuous improvement initiatives that meet or exceed company and regional goals.
- Establish overall sales direction, set pricing goals on every day accounts, tactical guidance on commercial/DOT bid projects, and hands on involvement with key account management.
- Provide leadership and oversight of sales and marketing efforts resulting in maximum product sales, meeting or exceeding customer expectations, and driving maximum profitability.
- Provide advice and support to team during the job bidding process.
- Management of Capital Expenditure Projects (CAPEX).
- Generate and manage the annual operating and capital budget under the direction of the NEN President.
- Provide direction to ensure efficiency, quality, service, and cost-effective management of resources.
- Work with NEN President to establish long-range goals, strategies, plans, and policies.
- Build effective teams and develop direct reports for future opportunities.
- Lead teams in performance management, recruitment and hiring, training and development, and succession planning.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
- Bachelor's degree (B.S. or B.E.) in Construction Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or other related discipline and/or equivalent combination of knowledge, skills and abilities. Advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of ten years in a management role within the construction industry.
- A thorough understanding of quality control processes and ACI/ASTM guidelines and specifications regarding concrete construction.
- Ability to prepare annual budgets; ability to answer questions and present financial data to NEN President and others.
- Experience in strategic planning and execution.
- Demonstrated success in managing a large group of employees.
- High standard of ethics, integrity, and trust.
- Proven ability to develop relationships and to work with teams.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; building rapport, listening, presenting, giving and receiving feedback.
- Must demonstrate the ability to use a computer to communicate and analyze data. This includes but is not limited to the use of Outlook, MS Office programs, construction software and web-based programs.

- Safely operate a motor vehicle frequently, such as a pick-up truck, often in rough, uneven conditions. Including mounting and dismounting equipment.

- Utilizing office equipment while sitting.
- Alternating frequently between sitting, standing, walking and climbing.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
