The Milken Institute’s events and programmatic activities involve the exchange of ideas with leaders from around the world. The Institute hosts more than 200 events each year, with our annual flagship event, Global Conference, bringing together 4,500+ participants from around the world, featuring more than 900+ speakers throughout 200+ sessions over the course of the event.
About the Position
The Milken Institute is looking for a Director of Financial Planning & Analysis to oversee operating and capital budgeting, forecasting, and performance analysis to support decision-making for our various entities and activities worldwide. This role will report directly to the COO/CFO and act as a key business partner to senior members of our leadership team. As a member of the Milken Institute finance team, you will support our 300+ subject matter experts working in the US, Mexico, Asia, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East in their mission to shape policy and deliver world-changing initiatives to enhance the physical health and financial well-being for everyone. This position presents an opportunity for the right person to use your financial skills to improve our efficiency in the delivery of these important solutions.
Responsibilities
- Assist business units with the preparation of strategic and operating plans.
- Lead the preparation of annual capital budget, operating budget, and cash flow projections.
- Establish appropriate KPI’s to assess organizational performance.
- Monitor and evaluate financial performance, track and report progress towards budget goals and objectives, provide insight and commentary on significant variances.
- Develop and maintain a robust financial forecasting model.
- Provide comprehensive support to senior management through the creation of insightful ad hoc analyses, models, reports, dashboards, and presentations on key operating and financial metrics to assist and improve decision-making.
- Analyze sales proposals and develop enhanced tracking of performance for all programmatic work to ensure appropriate profit margins are achieved for all projects.
- Identify opportunities to improve finance department processes, procedures, service levels, and financial reporting.
- Enhance current financial reporting presentation level and value using Tableau or similar.
Qualifications & Experience
- 7+ years relevant experience in Financial Planning & Analysis experience in a complex business environment.
- Undergraduate business degree in finance or accounting required, MBA preferred.
- Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Proficiency in financial modeling, forecasting techniques, and variance analysis.
- Advanced MS Excel skills, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, Index Match, and other advanced formulas.
- Advanced PowerPoint and Tableau skills.
- High level of proficiency with NetSuite or similar ERP system.
- High level of proficiency with Salesforce.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and presentation skills.
- Proven ability to interpret financial data and communicate findings effectively at all levels of the organization.
Working Conditions & Travel Requirements
This position will work in a professional office environment. This person will also be required to travel occasionally to other offices and/or venues to assist with events as needed, requiring occasional work outside of traditional hours. Additionally, this position requires interacting virtually on a regular basis with Milken Institute staff based in other locations in the United States and around the world.

This position will work a hybrid schedule consisting of three (3) days per week reporting in-person to the Santa Monica office location (Tuesday – Thursday), with the remaining two (2) days working remotely. Please understand, this schedule is subject to change in the Institute’s sole discretion.
