Job Summary/Objective
Provide leadership and technical support to the assigned areas of the plant. In this role, the Maintenance Unit Manager will provide direction and leadership to multiple craft supervisors and their crews of craftsmen. He will ensure that best practices are followed, including planning and scheduling compliance, work productivity, craft feedback to improve processes, and continually improving maintenance costs while staying within budgets. He will provide trend reporting on these areas and develop corrective actions, to achieve compliance. These plans may include training, auditing, process modifications, and research to develop improving standard practices.
Essential Functions
- Provide direction and coordination for all mechanical maintenance activities.
- Directs the work efforts of the first line supervisors and hourly employees.
- Works with Production and Technical Managers, Purchasing, Accounting, Engineering, fellow Maintenance Managers, and all other Personnel.
- Coordinate the activities of all support groups during major turnarounds within the assigned area.
- Administer plant policies, procedures, and plant safety program.
- Repair and maintain all piping, vessels and rotating equipment in the area.
- Long range planning for the area to include safety, capital spending, major maintenance, and annual forecasts of area's routine spending.
- Manage and control area routine daily spending based on total budget.
- Audit and inspection of area on a daily basis to identify opportunities and issues that could affect area performance.
- Complete area major maintenance items within budget and on time.
- Achieve or exceed manager KPI's.
- Define performance expectations of subordinates to affect required area maintenance support.
- Provide direction to area planner for work scheduling including priorities, responsibilities, and target dates.
- Define training required for development of subordinates including development of SMP's.
- Actively initiate/support continuous improvement efforts.
- Keep management informed on important area issues.
- Jointly manage MOC's, PSSR's, OHA's and Safety Design Reviews with area superintendent team.
Education/Training Requirements
- Highschool diploma or equivalent
- B.S. in Engineering or other related degree. Degree can be substituted for equivalent work experience
- 5-7 years of maintenance experience in an industrial/manufacturing environment with knowledge of plant process systems and procedures required.
- At least 4 years of supervision and management experience required
