Description:
Licensed Mechanic/Engineer - Days - Weekends
The Licensed Mechanic/Engineer ensures efficient and twenty-four-hour operation of equipment and utilities for the hospital’s Facilities operation. Inspects buildings, grounds, and systems to ensure the maintenance of service utilities. Personnel understands the interactions required between the Boilers, HVAC equipment, and their effect on operating systems and comfort. Maintains and monitors all hot water, steam, utilities, fire, and fire safety systems by local, state, and federal codes. Responsible for evaluating situations, correcting problems, initiating, and making referrals via phone, email, and text to appropriate specialists, contractors, and departments as necessary or directed by management. Evaluates and assesses works from prints or drawings; escalates to management when appropriate. Inspect, monitor, and test mechanical systems associated with lighting, heating, air-conditioning, plumbing, ventilation, medical air, fire & life safety, pneumatic tube system, drainage, and water supplies to ensure maintenance. May assist with disconnecting and connecting temporary generators in the event of power disruptions. Responds and resolves minor plumbing issues. Monitors Facility equipment, including boilers, chillers, auxiliary equipment, i.e., pumps, generators, etc., ensuring efficient operations and safety. Makes emergency repairs to pneumatic, mechanical, and electrical systems to prevent or stop interruptions of utility services.
This is a full-time day position, Wednesday - Sunday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, located at NewYork-Presbyterian / Allen Hospital.
Required Criteria
- High School Diploma or GED
- Vocational high school graduate with a minimum of two years of plumbing courses or equivalent
- Minimum of four (4) years of general maintenance experience in plumbing, electrical systems, and Heating, Ventilation, and Air-Conditioning (H.V.A.C.)
- Experience with shop tools, pipe threading, electric drills, rotary hammers, steam pressure reducing valve stations, etc.
- Ability to interpret plumbing, electrical, and mechanical blueprints
