Reporting directly to the President/CEO, the incoming accounting and finance professional will strategically lead the general accounting functions of the credit union, and will be responsible for asset liability management, budgeting, risk management, financial reporting, and investments. Additionally, the successful candidate will oversee the credit union’s plastic products and deposit operations (ACH and other electronic payments, IRA maintenance, etc.). The ideal candidate will be well-versed in the use of technology to create efficiencies and an environment around automation. The credit union is seeking someone with at least five years of senior leadership experience overseeing accounting and finance operations within a retail banking institution, strong analytical skills, and a holistic understanding of economics.
Responsibilities
- Oversees and directs budgeting, accounting, regulatory reporting, credit union real estate and rent payment schedules, finance, support services (deposit operations, ACH, card services) and vendor management of the organization.
- Directs preparation and evaluation of budgets and capital plans; directs receipt, disbursement, and expenditures of money or capital assets. Analyzes department budgets and allocates operating budget.
- Appraises the organization’s financial position and issues periodic financial and operating reports that adequately assess and report on the financial condition of the credit union.
- Prepares financial reports; ensures complete and accurate financial, statistical, and accounting records of the credit union. Oversees preparation and timely filing of NCUA 5300 Call Report and supporting schedules and reports.
- Directs the credit union's investment activities as custodian of funds, securities, and assets of the organization; maintains funding sources to ensure adequate liquidity at all times.
- Serves as Chairman of Asset/Liability Committee. Makes recommendations to ALM committee for strategic ALM changes.
- Works closely with external auditors and credit union examiners.
- As a member of the Management Team, assists in the formulation and execution of credit union policies, objectives, and programs. Participates in the credit union’s strategic planning process with other senior managers and the Board of Directors.
- Assists in the planning, research, analysis and decision-making process for credit union mergers, acquisitions, branch expansion and information technology upgrades.
- Writes, reviews, and distributes financial policy and procedure statements to ensure regulatory and policy compliance.
- Ensures that all accounting records are accurately maintained and that all reconcilements are completed in a timely and accurate fashion.
Qualifications
- Experience- 5+ years of similar or related experience in credit union or related field. Proven leadership skills.
- Education- Minimum of a bachelor's degree in finance or accounting from an accredited college or university.
- Interpersonal Skills- At times, work may involve exercising advanced conflict resolution and resolving issues impacting multiple departments or divisions. Role also requires the ability to motivate or influence others as a material part of the role, with a significant level of diplomacy and trust. Obtaining cooperation (internally and/or externally) is an important part of the role and a high level of interpersonal skills is critical to the success of this position.
